No company does appropriate mental health review, let alone design. Most of the more common tech choices in #social, #gaming, and #consumer portal design are quite intentionally leaning on and into known dark patterns for lack of any regulation against it.
I've lived in that trench 30 years and no, they do not, nor will they want to, so they only do what is mandate and play plausible deniability/ignorant until then.
For many this is an active tactic. 🪔

nophenia (PC) Wander through the dreams(?) of a wolf girl.
Taking a break from the thinky pain games with nophenia, which showed up in my Steam discovery queue and I thought "well that's odd looking" and just bought it on a whim. I don't really want to say too much about this game(?) as it's another one of those things you just kinda have to experience.
Functionally, it's a low poly 3rd person walking sim in which you traverse some surreal landscapes. You have an early 2000s flip phone you should check often. You can howl.
I'm not even sure I've seen an ending for this game. After a while (which is dependent on how much you want to wander around each area) you are just back to the title screen. I have 100%-ed it, achievement wise, which took me 108 minutes (the last 4 took about 20 mins).
This kinda felt like playing an existential crisis? IDK, it's just different, and I like experiencing different things. Fully enjoyed my time with this one and it's less than the price of a cup of coffee these days, which I felt was an entirely fair price. Do recommend.

Just thinking about the ending of #RedDeadRedemption2. It doesn’t matter how many times I play it, it always hits me in the feels. I also can’t help but play high honour too, so always get the sunrise. Damn. What a game. What storytelling.

I have a question to indie developers in the video game space; specifically, solo developers, hobbyists and tiny studios that grew out of the hobbyist space.
I am a freelance language service provider mostly working in the video game localisation industry; in other words, I translate video games.
My clients are localisation agencies, publishers and developers who hire me to translate their game to (or from) German.
Since getting credited for AAA work is notoriously difficult, I would like to work with indie developers more often.
Ethically, I would love to support the indie space and help people dabble in localising their games to make them more accessible to non-English audiences, and I do think it is a collaborative arrangement that benefits both sides. I could get more credits to my name and work on exciting passion projects, and they would receive professional-quality language services, perhaps even at a reduced rate.
While researching however, I found that few indie developers seem to consider localising their games in the first place.
The ones I *do* see going for localisation are the larger, more popular and well-known indie studios and publishers (e. g. the *Paralives* folks); while smaller developers, let alone hobbyists, very rarely seem to go for localisation, even if it's a commercial release.
Since I would like to design my own processes for offering such services specifically tailored to indie developers, I wanted to ask you directly: what is the reason you haven't considered localisation for your games so far? What could a language service provider do to make you feel more comfortable or confident in the decision to work on a translated version of your game? What are your worries and road blocks?

Quern: Undying Thoughts (Multi, XPd on PC) You awaken trapped on a strange isle, with clues left by the man who brought you here. Can you figure out what he wants and how to escape?
This is a fairly decent "modern" Myst-like from 2016. "Modern" in that you have full 3D movement etc as opposed to clicking around. Pretty world to wander around in as well.
Story is good, if nothing "special". Some excellent narration. Great music.
Of course, the main pull for these games is the puzzling. There is some really good thinky pain here. For the most part, the game is fairly straightforward with it. Each new area you open has stuff mostly related to that area. But there is more than a little crossover with other locations. Overall I was able to make my way through the game with minimal help (there are hints on items in your inventory). There were a few moments where "ok let's just try clicking all the things/trying to use every item and see what happens" tho 😆 (Also there's several guides in the Steam Community which isn't surprising considering the game is a decade old, so if you really get stuck there's help out there.)
Overall this was a fun 16 hours to roll credits (twice, as there's 2 endings). Especially since I got it on sale in Steam's Summer Sale for 5 bucks instead of 25. Definitely recommend it at that price, tho I wouldn't be mad if I'd paid full price either. Worth looking into if thinky pain is your jam.

I wish we had an advanced/realistic vehicle simulator. I always had plans and dreams but I couldn't make them real because they are too hard. I also had to learn about tech more first, like learning what is libre software etc.
Anyway, like realism should be our priority, sim should be coming with FPV only (first person view). No other views should be allowed.
Simulation should simulate human's senses like hot/cold temperature, making very hard brake should move camera, driving bad should move the camera, or flooring the gas pedal etc.
We should be able to click stuff inside the vehicle just like flight sims.
Sim must be compatible with PlayStation controllers as they are the best imo.
3D surround sound with headphones would be great.
Simulator should be libre too.
If we put support for maps/mods, the sim will get larger by community support.
Having AI traffic would be amazing too.
Driving simulators helped me A LOT with passing my driving exam.

The Station (Multi, XP'd on PC) Something has gone wrong on the Espial, a cloaked space station overlooking an inhabited planet. It's your job to figure out what the problem is and where the crew went before it's too late.
Recently acquired this 8 year old game for $1.50 in the summer Steam sale. This is a very short (2.5 hours to roll credits) walking sim puzzle game. Despite that short play time, it's got all the things you'd expect: locked doors, ID cards (bracelets, same diff), audio logs and text files, things to repair, etc.
The story is quite good, if not super deep. The voice acting is more than acceptable, it is flat here and there but also has plenty of emotional depth. The station is well realized esp for an older Unity game.
Controls.. this is where things got a bit wonky. It has controller support which is my preferred way to play most games(carpal is a bitch yo). However I ended up having to resort to Steam Input and remapping the controller and it still wasn't great. Last half of the game I gave up and went WASD.
I also noticed that my CPU was pushing hard, messed with the settings and turning on Vsync "fixed" it, or at least brought it down to a more reasonable level for what I would have thought was a "lighter" game, shrug.
Being that it is so short, it's kind of a bummer than the "twist" ending was telegraphed pretty early on, at least I saw through it fairly early. Despite that it was an enjoyable experience getting to that ending.
Overall I'd certainly recommend playing this, but given it's so short I would also suggest picking it up now or another Steam sale as the $15 reg price does feel a tad steep for a nearly decade old 3 hour long game, imo.

I want to see Steam succeed only because they are pushing Linux gaming forward.
Otherwise I would have never gotten entangled in their ecosystem this much.
Now I own thousands of games on Steam, two old Steam Controllers, one new Steam Controller, and one Steam Link. I advise indie developers releasing their games on Steam.
I still wouldn't mind some options, some competition in that field. There is none.
