I just finished up Orcs & Elves on the #NintendoDS (via the #AynThor).

Man, I really enjoyed this one. It's by Id Software and is a kind of first person dungeon crawler, but with restricted movement like the old Dungeon Master games.

It felt incredibly old school and incredibly western, the kind of thing you might find on a PC in the mid-90s.

It was pretty simple, not too challenging on normal, and was over in a perfectly appropriate 5 hours!

It took some tinkering, but I managed to set up screenshot syncing from the Steam Deck. I had to set up a Linux system service to run when the device starts (sounds scarier than it is), which checks for new screenshots and copies them into a folder which is synced using SyncThing.
So far it's working well!

It'll make it a lot easier to share game screenshots, which, as you may have noticed, I enjoy doing 😊

Nachdem die Lady @sunshine eine Linux Gaming Distro verpasst bekommen hat, habe ich mich auch ein bisschen umgeschaut.

Gefunden habe ich für mich das #PikaOS. Image basierendes Debian Zocker OS mit richtig schnellen Bootzeiten und vielen Extras. Und ja, da haben auch die Entwickler vom CachyOS und Nobara ihre Finger mit drin. Es sieht mit Artworks nicht nur niedlich aus, sondern macht auch lustige Geräusche beim Einloggen in den Desktop.

Die Performance mit meinen GOG Linux Games ist sehr gut. Keine Lags oder ähnliches. Die Installation der Games habe ich mit Minigalaxy völlig problemlos erledigt. Lutris läuft auch, habe nur die Wine-GE und Proton-GE Performance noch nicht getestet.

Ich hatte einen komischen Moment mit #Fedora & #Steam. Habe auf der zweiten HDD eine Bibliothek angelegt. Steam erstellte auch Ordnerstruktur und den Spieleordnern. Dann bricht Steam ab und meldet "Fehler beim Schreiben auf dem Medium" Bin von Berechtigungen ausgegangen und habe über die Anwendungsbereichtigungen den Mountpoint ergänzt. Zunächst ohne Erfolg. Irgendwie klappt es nun. Nur weiß ich nicht was zum Erfolg geführt hat. Brauchte Fedora nur nen Neustart? #Linux #Gaming #KawummkeLinux

Oha! Warum habe ich das noch nicht früher gemacht? Fedora läuft fantastisch! Ich hatte nicht eine Hürde zu überwinden und bisher laufen alle Spiele einwandfrei. Zudem ist das gesamte System viel entspannter unterwegs. Sogar UT99 läuft mit dem Launcher out of the Box. Auch der erste Multiplayer-Test lief ohne Probleme :). Playing some #Fallout4 on #SteamDeck and have made an observation. The shadows aren't screen space because they persist when an object is well outside your viewport, including characters and other non static objects. Also, the sun in #Fallout 4 moves in discrete steps instead of gradually.

Also das Problem mit dem #Tobii Tracker und dem #Flightsick vun #TurtleBeach muss ich Live sehen und dann entscheiden. Aus diesem Grund nicht mit #Fedora zu starten, kommt für mich aber nicht in die Tüte.

Der heutige Tag drehte sich um #X11, #Wayland und meine #nvidia. Ich werde mit Wayland starten und X11 zunächst als Fallback mitschleifen.

Irgendwie freue ich mich auf eine neue GPU von AMD.

I have figured out what the problem with The Last Caretaker is. It's "Global Illumination". When I set it to Low, my CPU settles down to a still kinda balmy 82C. Bit high imo, but ok. (Yeah I know AMD chips are "designed to run hot" I just don't like seeing 8 on the front of the temp, just a me thing)

However.. the frame rate drops from around 75ish to fucking TWENTY, TWO ZERO. With dips into the TEENS. TF. If I try to FSR it back to playable, the CPU BBQ kicks back in and it's pushing 90C. So I cannot fix it.

Went to the game's Steam Discussion page and searched for "Global Illumination". Heartening to see 5 pages of posts pop up. So it's not just me. Less heartening is the fact there are zero Dev responses.

I really wanna like and recommend this game.. but I just can't when there's an issue like this that isn't even garnering a response. I do like the premise and the mechanics etc. Just wish the Devs would learn how to "optimize" Unreal Engine 5.

Stupid game prob the sole reason my thermal paste got pumped out and dried, forcing me to buy new paste, then a (soon to arrive) new heatsink, even contemplate buying a new CPU, lol. Damn but Unreal 5 sucks.

We had a wonderful board gane night with the boys. Wyrmspan (my first time, won with 98 points), Scotland Yard (won as the criminal in 5 player game) and 6 Nimmt! (won).

But more important than the games (and definitely more important than the wins) is that we had a lovely evening with old friends.

Following beating Star Wars Dark Forces Remastered, I went back to another Nightdive remaster, Powerslave Exhumed. I guess I hadn't realized how deep I got into it the last time I played as I loaded my save to find I'm on the second to last level with all the transmitter parts for the good ending.

Might as well finish it off before my vacation ends.

I don't think AAA gaming companies could have fucked themselves harder than they have lately.

Even with their games on sale for 75% or more on Steam, I just can't bite, because I know it involves using a 3rd party app, intrusive "online-only" DRM, and handing money to the worst people in gaming - AAA CEOs.

There's a heap I'd love to buy, right up my alley - looking at you Star Wars Outlaws - but the barrier to entry is just too high for me

Cyberpunk 2077 is on a really good sale and apparently is popular on Steam Deck. I'd love to buy it.

However, first-person games make me sick, even on Steam Deck.

Is there any reliable way to get a third-person view in Cyberpunk 2077? I know CD Projekt Red made a deliberate choice to not include a third-person mode so I'm not sure how successful mods have been.

I did finally buy Avowed which is another first-person game with the difference being they included a third-person mode and just emphasized it's not the preferred way to play.
