I'm still not over the end of PiranhaBytes, I think it was one of the most tragic losses of recent video game business craziness over the last few years. A studio who refused to accept that "better graphics" was an acceptable compromise to actual gaming and went their own way and made three memorable gaming franchises that, even with their issues, interest me more than anything a AAA studio has ever put out.

Arcade conversion to Linux progress: I had my entire setup on an external hard drive and kept everything for the arcade on it, made it fully portable so I could mount as any drive letter. I copied the data off, formatted ext4 and copied everything back on.

Started updating the Attract Mode paths for thumbnails and movies to match the new ext4 file system setup. Hit the button accidentally to start a game and it.... unexpectedly booted up? Turns out the paths still match and even though I never installed wine, Windows Retroarch was running Doom 32x. I was... quite confused that this functioned at all.

That's fine for now, but I intend on moving everything possible to local native Linux versions of the emulators I use except in cases where I cannot like TeknoParrot. So far, so good. Just gotta be very careful about case-sensitivity on ext4.

A lot more work to do including some theme filename updates to fix some missing images.

I spotted someone sharing their #Sony #PSP mod which 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘭𝘺 improves battery life. Increasing what is typical for the battery (1400 mAh) to a utterly crazy 7200 mAh version.

RoyHehe wanted to see how much battery life you could feasibly fit inside the console, which required removing the UMD drive, RF shielding and you have to trim shell in a lot of places, too.

So maybe not for the faint of heart?

Gut möglich, dass ich mit dem empfohlenen #Gentoo zufrieden wäre. In den letzten 25 Jahren bin ich verschiedentlich ins Gebüsch abgebogen und habe mal was Anderes probiert; ich bin jedes Mal reumütig zu #Debian zurück gekehrt. On the Vanilla server on my Minecraft network( @fuchsmc ). I made a minecart track which is 2000 blocks long and i timed how long it would take to go back and forth. i did 4000 blocks in 30 secounds. i could go from one side of the world to the other in 2 minutes and 15 secound which is honestly crazy.

Der #Steam Client funktioniert zwar schon seit Jahren einwandfrei unter #Linux, und hat mit #Proton #Gaming unter Linux erst wirklich möglich gemacht. Mittlerweile gibt es aber auch gute Alternativen. Mit den #opensource launcher #Lutris bekommt man so gut wie jedes Spiel zum Laufen, egal ob Steam, #Origin, #Uplay, #Epic oder #GOG. Ich empfehle GOG, alle Spiele laufen auch offline weil sie #DRM frei sind, die Spiele gehören einem also wirklich, kein #GamesAsAService! Bin auch schon gespannt auf die Linux Version des GOG #Galaxy Launcher.

Heh. I've been playing Guild Wars 2 since it was released (2012...and Guild Wars "1" before that, since 2005 or something) but I have never been bothered with making legendary gear, as it simply isn't needed. Anyone can rock up to any fight with whatever gear you've acquired by just playing, and it'll be (just about) as good as legendary gear. So I haven't really felt the need to grind for them myself. Until now.

I figured last month I should perhaps look in to it anyways. There is a convenience factor with Legendary gear and...well, something to aim for. So I looked at my options, realising I had quite a few bits and bobs in my storage. I was pretty much halfway to the Legendary greatswords Sunrise and Dusk. I got Dusk within that week, so have been sorting out the final bits for Sunrise when I realised if I have them both I can actually create Eternity, which is a combination of both Sunrise & Dusk (and thus twice as valuable).

Said and done. I now have Eternity. What should I go for next? I am thinking I should probably aim for armor. Or perhaps the trinkets...? I will probably sell Eternity anyways, I actually don't think it looks all that good, and I don't really use Greatswords on any of my 9 characters...

I got the last Windows game I really cared about working through Linux a week ago, so I've taken my ROG Ally X and installed CachyOS on it and have it working like a Steam Deck would. It's funny, my kids don't call "AI" in games - as in the computer generated bots, not LLMs - AI, but "NPCs". When I say "oh, the AI is broken in this game" they're like "Why are you using an LLM", and I have to explain it.

So, @Luanti is awesome. I never got into Minecraft. Since I didn’t really understand what it was about, I didn’t want to buy it and it never seems to go on sale.

I am not sure if there are major things I am missing, I am using the “Voxel Libre” mod. I think that is what it is called. It is the one that gives it Minecraft like functionality.

Just once I'd like Linux game aficionados to maybe ask actual gamers if Linux is good enough.

I get it, you play your few games that work with Linux, but for the vast majority of us gamers, we have well over a thousand games, and only a fraction of them work with Linux.

"Just take the time to configure <insert whatever Linux emulator you use>" I hear you say. Guess what? I don't like picking up a tech support case just to run a new game. Oh, and when it gets updated, having to do the same again.

Sorry, but Linux is nowhere near "game ready" for the vast majority of gamers, and, as much as I detest Microsoft and Windows, it's the only viable option for the vast majority of computer gamers
