@sag3s Yeah I have an entry level #synology 2 bay nas that's been tried and true but the issue with any storage solution is backing it up and redundancy so for every 1gb of data you need 3gb of space. that's too expensive and honestly not much I have requires that level of security so I was just running JBOD with a 4TB and 3TB. Now with my second #proxmox node I'm running #OMV and have set that up with mergerfs so it's one virtual disk but this is why i need the 2.5 between the servers as my media server (#jellyfin) is on the other node.

On top of the virtual merger file, I created an iscsi block for the #gaming VM to store games on. It's the best way I could find how to reduce the overhead the cifs brings so i can remote stream the vm (overhead here too) while still having a stable connection. It's still in the trial and error phase.

Lastly - look at me go just found out I can scrap the 500 character limit.

Arc Raiders wasnt nearly as exciting or engaging as i thought it would be, or as fun as my friends find it.

I'm happy for them.

6 hours in I'm already ready to move on to something new or go back to something else i already play.

Aesthetically, the game is a good exploration of what Fallout must feel like for everyone who isn't the MC:

Nervously, quietly digging through file cabinents in abandoned buildings, hoping whatever poor quality gun & gear i have will be enough to ward off anything that finds me or that i encounter.

In reality i suck at playing the game and it's not compelling enough to justify sitting and learning it.

PCGH hat sich mal die aktuelle Performance von Nvidia und AMD Graka unter Linux im Vergleich zu Linux angeschaut.

Die Gesamtchart aus den Benchmarks ist für mich als RTX 5090 User ziemlich eindeutig.
Unter Windows erreicht sie fast 100% Leistung, unter Linux nur noch ca. 75€ Leistung.

Damit werde ich fürs Zocken auch zukünftig fürs Erste auf #Windows11 bleiben.
Fast 25% Leistungsverlust unter Linux ist für mich ein zu hoher Trade Off.

Zum Abschluss des Jahres noch ein wenig auf die Mütze kriegen - warum nicht, dachten sich @meldrian, @xilef und @comrad und fanden sich bei einer spontanen Runde #BeyondAllReason zusammen - um gemeinsam eins von der KI (natürlich unter #Linux) auf die Mütze zu kriegen.

Die KI hat geliefert wie bestellt. Es war herrlich. So kann das Jahr enden.

Is This Seat Taken? (Multi, XP'd on #SteamDeck ) A charming little puzzle game where you help shapes find the perfect spots.

As the title suggests, this game is all about placing things in the right seat. There's a little story to go with it about one of the shapes wanting to be a movie star.

It's cute, cozy, and perfect for bedtime/on the go short sessions on the Deck. It did start to feel just a bit repetitive but ends quickly enough to not get boring. 👍 👍

Day 10 today, finishing up Wei's musou in Dynasty Warriors 4 as Zhang Liao before we show off Lu Bu's "What If" musou as our custom character.

As fun as it would be to go rampaging as the man, the myth, the legend himself, Lu Bu does make things pretty easy and boring. Plus, this way we get to show off our cool new OC, and he's even comes with our boy Gan Ning's moveset, which is hands down my favorite from any character/title in the series.

Watched the first two episodes of "Fallout" today, and (mild spoilers) this season seems to focus on New Vegas, which is still my favorite.

Decided I wanted to play New Vegas again, but then remembered I still haven't tried Tale of Two Wastelands. For those not familiar, ToTW basically smooshes Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas together, with the more robust gameplay from the later carried over to the former (ammo types/crafting, weapon mods, perks, etc). Struck out a little beyond the recommended mods with improved textures and additional perks/rebalancing, and I'm happy to report rock-solid performance on my Legion Go.

I'd like to get this setup figured out in Linux, but that either means getting a mod manager to work or figuring out manual installation for 50+ mods, and I just wanted to follow a guide and start playing.

Anyways, this is *the* route to take if you want to replay FO3; it's a much better game via ToTW in my opinion.

Did another sanity check on the 2nd PC and installed The Alters which is an Unreal 5 game. My internet bill gonna be higher this month cause I apparently passed the cap limit (thanks for failing to send me the warning email Comcast) but whatever. Booted it, checked the settings (Epic, Native AA so the 1080p the display runs at) and loaded in.. to a buttery smooth 60fps.

So it's definitely something going on with The Last Caretaker. I have no idea what, tho. For some reason in game no matter what settings I use, it's capping itself to 20fps. Options menu it jumps to 40fps. It absolutely should easily run at 60fps just like The Alters.

I've deleted just about everything Nvidia from the OS. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. I really do not want to reinstall Mint or install another OS just to "fix" this issue. I'd rather figure out why, after swapping out an old, weak 1050TI for an RX 6800 exactly ONE GAME is refusing to accept this change and still runs like fucking hot garbage.

My original #playstation that I've had since high school seems to have a failing disc drive, so I couldn't say no to this cheap find at #savers thrift store (a New England chain that I no longer have access to since I live in New York now).

It even came with a free copy of #grandtheftauto3 (more likely, an enployee at Savers forgot to check for a disc or didn't care about pulling it to sell seperately)! Sure, it's a PS2 game so it won't work on a PSX and I already have two copies of it, but why not?

Also, LOL at the #thrillkill sticker. I'm keeping that on it, for sure.

I recently started playing The Alters. Haven't gotten super far yet. Just re-cased my PC and was testing things to make sure everything was good. Saw my CPU (AMD 7600X, 105w TDP) was hitting 90c. Eep. Realized the new case fans were all 3 pin, so no PWM. Bought all new 4pin case fans and installed them. Tested again.. still 90c. Wtf?

Didn't think the thermal paste was an issue, but I also didn't have any more so I bought some Duronaut. Pulled the heatsink today after the paste arrived and I'll be damned if it wasn't dry. Barely a year on it. Arctic Silver MX is apparently kinda meh. So I put a decently thick X of the Duronaut paste on there and reinstalled the heat sink.

Booted it back up and ran some more tests.. only to find that Unreal games were STILL pushing the CPU to 80c, quickly. Last Caretaker benchmark is 90 secs long, not a lot of time to see a CPU reach 80c. Loading a save and running around for a bit and it's getting to 86, 87c. The hell. And I've got the graphics set up to push the GPU (9070XT) at 99% ffs. (It's temping at 54c, btw)

Booted up Cyberpunk 2077 and even set so the CPU has to do "more thinking" and the GPU is only sitting around 60%, the temp would not pass 66c as I ran around the center of Night City. So the paste IS applied well, Unreal Engine just puts that much fucking stress on a CPU.

I"m really not a fan of any kind of water cooling. Currently have a Cooler Master heatsink on it. Thinking I'm gonna order one of Thermalright's Peerless Assassins before too long. Tops pretty much every chart of air cooled heatsinks, and it's 50 bucks. Pretty good deal.

It is time to ask for advice on #Linux distributions that are good for #gaming.

I've got two laptops that I'd like to move from Win11 to Linux, the main goal for me is to get away from Microsoft, but to keep using #Steam. (Maybe even some more games might be running on my laptops then!)

I am by no means a programmer or anything, but I can follow a manual. Also, I get easily frustrated, that's what I have to be honest about.

I think that part of why this generation of Xbox failed is because of confusion about the names of the offerings.
In the Xbox One days, they released a more powerful Xbox One called the "One X". I thought this was going to be the next generation for Xbox... it was not.
Then also, why is the family name for this generation the "Series X/S"? Your new generation of consoles is the "Xbox Series" family?? What even is that?

Being able to build custom desktops using #Docker and use them without any latency is AWESOME! Now i can play games on my #thinkpad, spin up various different desktops for any usecase, or use my #kalilinux desktop from whatever device i want to. I can even play #Cyberpunk on my #AndroidTV. I have no words to describe how much i love this 😁

I have a bee in my bonnet now to play the Fallout series games. I don't have a PC running Windows, apparently the best way to experience these titles. I did find an old Asus laptop however that may be coerced into running at least the first couple of games.
Now starts a jolly journey to install some version of Windows on the laptop (trying XP, downloadable from Internet Archive!). This means burning a bootable USB drive correctly on my Macbook, then install, find the games, install them.
Might be done by the time I need to go back to work in the new year.

I'm still not over the end of PiranhaBytes, I think it was one of the most tragic losses of recent video game business craziness over the last few years. A studio who refused to accept that "better graphics" was an acceptable compromise to actual gaming and went their own way and made three memorable gaming franchises that, even with their issues, interest me more than anything a AAA studio has ever put out.

I got gifted the Tomb Raider 1,2,3 collection on GoG, and on a whim I decided I’d install and have a look at how it’s aged. Rather than shelving it for the archive.

I’m astounded at how well it’s aged. You can toggle the new and old visuals with the Start button, but the old version still looks pretty good, and has a much more stable geometry than the old integer poly-wobble days.

But more importantly, for a game about technical platforming in tight spaces, the controls and gameplay still work really well. There’s a Tank controls option which is default, but also a ‘modern’ option, which plays as you’d expect in 2025. And I have to say, for the sorts of platforming where it’s largely only about positioning and timing (usually) it plays great.

Even the auto lock-on for combat is tight and responsive, and I never really felt like I was going to be killed by the camera or duff controls. Water traversal is also fine, you just have to think more like you’re piloting a torpedo than a person. They’ve even added invert Y for us neurospicy lot.

Additionally, how good is this level design?! I’d totally forgotten how good it was.
