I spent several hours today researching and comparing and testing different anti-aliasing modes in No Man's Sky with this new RTX 5080 GPU.

I have been using TAA for years in NMS and am quite familiar with DLSS, having read about it over the years. But, today I discovered DLAA (Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing) and that NMS supports it.

Ryzom.com is a Linux-friendly game, and has options to view from first-person face-to-face mode, with shooting, magic, or bashing , but I preferred the amazing omniscient view of landscapes, fauna and flora. A huge world for sneaking around in, with few players, considering the world size. Turn up all the video detail your machine can handle. It feels a bit like being in the movie 'Avatar'.

This game is very hard.

Submarine hunting has become my favourite part. It's exactly like Red Storm Rising. Sonar buoys, dipping sonars, and magnetic anomaly detectors painfully scouring the ocean knowing at any moment a sub can appear and end your entire fleet — and any active sonar pings immediately cause chaos.

My lame gamer move is to speculatively drop torpedoes when I think I have one nailed, hoping they'll panic and make some noise.

Fleet and air combat is... sorta as boring as we should expect in the modern era.

Basically, large fleets fire long range missiles at each other and whoever fires enough to get through air defence fastest wins. Air combat is similar — BVR missiles expended in seconds before returning to base.

Ground attack aircraft are OP though. Immediate death if they get in missile range — especially Backfires, supersonically entering range then fleeing after firing.

I bought this LEGO Gameboy kit today and decided to build it. 100000000% worth it.

The attention to detail is absolutely insane. You can press the buttons, there is contrast and volume that you can move up and down (doesn't do anything to the screen, but that goes without saying), and you can plug in two cartridges.

I absolutely love this thing, so glad I bought it!!

I'm such a basic bitch, but I am absolutely loving Sea Power (on sale on Steam).

It's the newest game from the rebirthed Microprose, who made all my favourite games when I was a sprog (and has a mission that's a reimplementation of the game Better Part of Valour), and is basically a NATO-wave Cold War-era naval combat simulator.

Submarine hunting is like Red Storm Rising. Battleship combat is incredibly satisfying. I love it.

Decided it was time for a new instance, so here’s my #introduction. I’m a creatively driven fellow with a passion for privacy, cybersecurity, Linux, and free and open source software. I enjoy gaming, creative writing, and technology—the latter of which inspired me to pursue cybersecurity and system administration.

I embarked on this journey around the start of the pandemic, when the sudden surplus of free time gave me the opportunity to try Manjaro, a distribution of Linux based on Arch. With the release of the Steam Deck, I moved over to NixOS, which I’ve been using ever since while studying cybersecurity in higher education.

To be fair, I was already interested in Linux 10 years ago and had it as a secondary option on my PC for 2-3 years. But now it's my main OS, especially for #gaming (better performance) and for #productivity (less distraction). My experience so far is so good that I don't think I'll ever switch back.

Yesterday they've released SOLO Leveling: Arise Overdrive.
I kinda liked anime and game looked good, so I've tried it.

I was surprised, when in the middle of the fight everything stoped and I couldn't move / use any skills / attacks.
My surprise was even bigger when outisde of the battle I stopped moving for about 10(maybe 20) seconds.
Fights are perfect🤌, if it wasn't "always online" "feature" it would be really good game with great combat. (similar to Devil May Cry)

So I've asked for refund (wanted to play on the go on my Steam Deck).
Why you have to be always online when playing in single player?

So, in the process of leaving #Windows everywhere, the #gaming part was most challenging.

I’m currently running #WoW, #EldenRing, #Starfield and #MechWarrior5.

I managed to brick one Xbox Elite Series 2 controller, and had to give up on the sweet PS5 DualSense Edge, but finally got all my favorite games running under #Steam on #Debian 12. My current controller is a tethered PS3, since my BT is jammed to crap by neighbours IoT mesh.

#Modding, as opposed to running the vanilla Steam installs, evokes the Ford Fairlane quote: ”Like masturbating with a cheese grate - somewhat amusing, but mostly painful.”

It’s been a ride, with plenty of CLI stuff and NVIDIA kernel module shenanigans.

#Linuxgaming is nice, but it’s still not easy.

50 hours in to Kingdom Come Deliverance II, and, well, the hours should say enough. Definitely worth a play, and it really hits that narrative near-RPG spot.

It truly is a beautiful game, too. I don't think I've come across a part that isn't buzzing with life, or a picturesque scene, or both.

The swordplay is, as always, the best part. Masterstrikes feel good, and really push beyond the block-whack-block-whack that so many end up at.

I do like the addition of "pistoles", and how they're totally ineffective at actually killing anyone from range, but at close range, you'll probably kill someone and scare everyone else (especially with the right perks).

The history stuff is well researched, and it truly does feel like you sit on the edge of that Sigismund-Wenceslaus conflict, with references to key events, and far off places bringing your little corner of Bohemia into the broader world
