I am considering using BGT to create some games. I know nothing about programming and heard this is easy to use. I may use it with Perplexity. I have no interest in cross-platform development, cloud things, web-based games, etc. This is just for Windows, preferably XP and 7, 32-bit (which will naturally work on 64-bit as well). I'd also like to keep things relatively simple. At any rate, I just visited this part of the Nathan Tech website, and all of the links to developer resources no longer work, including the BGT site from the Internet Archive. Why is the main page still here if the important materials are not? I believe some programs on other parts of the site can no longer be found either, and I am referring to ones specifically by this company. Note that this is not meant to insult the developers. I'm just a bit confused.

I should start another “Midnight Suns” run, because that was a fantastic game that is really hard to explain and was marketed all wrong. It’s one of my absolute favourite games and I had it sit in my library for so long because the trailer and cover blurb didn’t tell me a thing about what the game actually is. And, honestly, I am not sure how to correctly do this either without making it sound like a convoluted mess. It is amazing design that they made this work.

I've now finished some games installed via Heroic, backed up my saves, and then uninstalled the games. This might not sound like much of an accomplishment but it's something of a milestone.

I started using Linux late last year, and I've been gradually building a "workflow" for accomplishing things. Among the many other things going on in my life, this includes figuring out how I want to organize my games, especially on my new computer since it has very little storage space. At the same time I have also been undergoing a long-term effort of organizing my games, and backing up their game data and their saves in a way that makes sense and is accessible to me.

The Silent Age (Multi, XP'd on PC) Joe the janitor gets tangled up in the strange goings on at his company's lab, and needs to travel through time to save the world.

Bought this (likely on sale) over a decade ago and somehow never got to it till today, lol.

This is a pretty short (4hrs or so) and simple point and click. For as old as it is (think it first launched in 2012?) it's got good production values. Decent voice acting, simple but effective art style, good writing, good story.

The main "gimmick" here is using the time travel to get around obstacles in various ways. The most obvious of which is: door closed in the future? Travel back and pass through it in the past. It's a neat little trick and used various ways to good effect.

TBH the puzzles in this game are pretty heavily on the "easy" side for this genre, which is why it ends up being a 4hr single session playthrough. Which I don't mind, it's a nice break after 40 hrs of turn based battling in Expedition 33. Also because it's "so old", it'll run on a fucking potato, which meant my PC was super overkill for it, 4K 120fps (monitor refresh rate, prob could have run 300fps) 🤣

All in all I enjoyed the experience and think it's well worth the $10USD on Steam and it goes on sale fairly often which makes it a steal at half price or even less. 👍

So I rolled credits on Clair Obscur yesterday.

.. I mean it's good, but I don't think it's a "masterpiece" or GOTY material. There was nothing "groundbreaking", which isn't a requirement or anything, just.. well there's a decent amount of janky oddness that definitely is jarring. Cut scenes that are locked to 30fps in IDK what res but def not the 4K I was playing it in, so they just didn't look right next to my gameplay. The facial animations are .. just wonky, fierce baring teeth grins, lips not synced to voice lines a lot, etc.

The battle mechanics were aight but nothing memorable other than <old man rant> timing windows that felt small even in Story (care bear) mode as well as some definite input lag screwing up my timing </old man rant>.

Story was decent, but as it progressed it sure did start to feel pretty cluttered up with all the side stuff. And I mean (again, old man here, 40+ years gaming now) there weren't any story beats that surprised me.

But, the overall package is still good. Good voice acting, great music, great art and character design.. esp from a smaller team. I'm not regretting my purchase or the nearly 40 hours I spent on it at all, and I'm looking forward to whatever they come out with next.

Also it did play excellently well on my Linux PC, which is always nice.
