Game site called Loaded is having a sale and I was very amused that the second Pathfinder game is reduced to £1.49. In the end I bought the fancier version full of DLC for £9, but that tiny price had me laughing hard for a minute.

Possibly some aren’t selling well, idk. It’s an unusual site. They source cheaper codes and don’t have endless copies available so sometimes they sell out.

Also bought Tiny Tina’s Wonderland. I played some of the smaller standalone adventure (I forget the name) and it’s a bit cute, but both fun and funny. She’s a fabulous character, chaotic girl running the game which we see bits of her DM-ing between playing, and then there’s the rock music.

I’m tempted by Dragon’s Dogma 2, Broken Age and Cyberpunk 2077, but I want to check them out more.

#StreetFighter 4. It attracted such a big new fanbase that "’09ers" (the game released in 08) became a term of derision for "players new to the series."

It wasn't perfect, but it definitely, immediately had a feeling of "oh shit. Street Fighter is back. You need to play this."

Given that the series hadn't had a mainline entry since 1998 (SF3 3rd Strike), Street Fighter 4 looking good and feeling good to play saved the series, and also proved complicated 2D fighters were still popular enough to justify full releases.

The game and it's popularity kicked off the new wave of Fighting games, and also revitalized and expanded the arcade stick controller market.

It was wild. It was on consoles. It was in arcades. It was online. It was a moment.

What's the best GPU for playing older (as in early 2000s) games? Ideally on Windows XP SP3.

If I recall correctly they at some point dropped native support for some APIs which makes current gen (i)GPUs basically "not ideal" for these old games. Even when ran through e.g. a QEMU/KVM virtualisation layer.

So one wanted to play a game, a pretty old game, some 20+ years old but available through one of these new modern game launchers. A couple of hours free, let's have some fun! What can go wrong one would say?

So one starts the game launcher, immediately greeted by the prompt that the launcher needs updating. Ok, that should be quick, one thinks.... A couple of minutes, clicks and confirmation dialogs later the launcher is updated! Yay let's play! Oh wait they have new EULA and that needs confirmation too, ok. Then you are probably guessing a shiny new privacy policy (one could bet AI related) click... Click... CLICK... Accept... Whatever ... One is getting impatient, one wants that game... Done! No more prompts!

Finally let's start that shiny game with retro graphics! One clicks the game launcher icon.... Oh game needs updating too... But it is 20+ years old... Whyyyy..... Ok click download... Wait... And wait... And wait... Game download finished and installed... One is hesitant to click the game launcher again... Is new EULA for the game next? Or privacy policy....? Or...

One remembers the days when he first played that game... 25 years ago... On a hardware that was a fraction of one we have today... No internet connection needed... You take a single shiny CD, you place it in CD drive, drive spins happily adding to your excitement, autostart does it's magic and the game starts in all its glory without any icons clicked, updates or distractions... Just fun and simplicity... Happy days...

I've been playing Cities Skylines a bit lately to help my son out. It's been fun, and reminded me of why I love the game. It's not perfect, but it's pretty damn close.

Stupidly I decided to install Cities Skylines II again, thinking "Surely they'd fixed all the problems, in 2 years".

Nope. You can still build a beautiful grid of city, then suddenly it'll collapse, with zoning squares no long lining up, and roads becoming a random mess of zoning.

And, as usual, traffic, population, employment, etc is being fudged, along with new problems like weird fades to black after placing stuff, ghosting, etc.

It's an utter mess, and little surprise that Colossal Order were sacked by Paradox.

I don't hold up hope for anyone fixing it, let alone the mobile dev Paradox have stuck on it

Well, Anbernic sent me their VERY #Nintendo DSi-ish handheld to review a little while back. After an interesting first week (they had a desync issue where the top screen ended up running at 40 Hz while the bottom stayed at 60 Hz), they fixed the issue with an update.

I spent a LOT of time with this handheld, and honestly...I'm one of the vert few who loved it :)
