I should start another “Midnight Suns” run, because that was a fantastic game that is really hard to explain and was marketed all wrong. It’s one of my absolute favourite games and I had it sit in my library for so long because the trailer and cover blurb didn’t tell me a thing about what the game actually is. And, honestly, I am not sure how to correctly do this either without making it sound like a convoluted mess. It is amazing design that they made this work.

Sorry to be a downer, but I've got to be honest now. #Screamer will likely be a great game, but it's DOA because Milestone refuse to promote their games, so no-one will know it even exists.

Their last post was on January 26th when the game is out in five days - their last video four days earlier got 555k views!

They just don't give a fuck what happens with their own games for some reason.

Along with they've already said they don't plan to add any post-launch content, it's going to be a ghost town in days.

I've already turned off the auto-download and although I probably won't, I'm thinking of cancelling the pre-order. No doubt I'm to blame having bought into the hype by doing that.

Yeah... I got Windows NT 4.0 running with Service Pack 6a incl. drivers and all the latest updates from 1999 and even managed to install a few games: Windows Entertainment Pack, SimCity Classic and Age of Empires II. This is quite nice! Although I remember from back in the day that NT 4.0 only supported a very limited selection of games. That's why I always used it as part of a dual-boot setup with Windows 9x.

Well, this week has so far involved a seizure from Jarrah (he missed a dose of his medication, which doesn't bode well for reducing it over the next month, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it), a night of digestive issues for me, and a call from Dad late this afternoon, who thankfully didn't need the hospital this time (probably just dehydrated and low blood sugar; I went over and made him a cuppa and a sandwich).

+ Kid4 has been playing Diablo 2 and loving it and keeps asking me stuff and last night we had a chat about some things (waypoints and identifying items) and he said, 'It's so great to be finally playing a game that I can talk to you about!' (because I play few games, but Diablo 2 is one of my very faves)

+ we have a hot day forecast tomorrow but after that, hopefully it'll be into cooler weather

+ the kitchen stayed clean until the weekend! I say 'stayed clean' – I mean, I kept it clean. Obviously it's a bit messy now given the last couple of days but I feel like it's not overwhelming. Also, the fam is helping with this – yay for a virtuous circle

+ fit in a good trumpet practice before Dad called. I missed so many days last week and I really noticed the difference in my lesson

+ I ordered a record for my birthday soon and it arrived and I'm so delighted 🥰

I was able to get a slew of retired machines from work (giant towers no one wanted) and I am going to do a home lab project where I'm testing #gaming on a variety of #linux distros.

• Pop OS
• Mint
• Ubuntu
• Kali (just because I can)

Testing straight Linux installs, and through stores, eithe r directly with Steam or through Heroic // Lutrix // miniGalaxy for older installs, GOG, Epic, etc. Also some DweebDOS for the really old ones.

Are there any other distros I should test?

This is part of a larger personal project on helping friends and family remove themselves from the Person as Product ecosystem.

May turn it into a conference talk.

Although the Mac mini with the Apple M4 chip does have a pretty respectable graphics performance given its small size, it's still nowhere near my boring, old gaming PC.

I just ran the "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" benchmark on the M4 and managed to get around 25-35fps in a 1440p resolution. Just for comparison, I then booted up my PC and ... well... it managed over 200fps. On 2160p 4K with highest settings. Holy cow! Probably not a fair fight.😅

Was trying out #FinalFantasy 7 Rebirth earlier on my #SteamDeck since I had started it on the main PC, and it actually looks and runs quite well with its default preset (all low), probably because of the TAAU AA/upscaling. But it has adopted the modern #gaming trope of painting the intended path in random ass yellow paint...

Managed to get Hytale working with controller on Ubuntu via AntiMicroX using a 8BitDo Ultimate 🎉

The controller's right stick wasn't mapped correctly at first but worked great after using AntiMicroX's mapping option though uinput was set to root:root so also had to change it's group to input and add that group to my user.

Kiddo has been watching me play and was super excited to be able to play as well 😊

So I just downloaded the game, Audible kung fu and I am really enjoying all the sounds all the atmosphere and the style of gameplay actually, I like all of their games honestly. I do have a question though when it says to go to the main menu screen and go to the upgrade screen to upgrade my weapon whatever it’s called. I’m not seeing an option to level it up. Lately I’ve realized that most of the games that really keep my attention are text-based ones.
Right now my two favorites are EmpireMUD and Stellar Aeon.
EmpireMUD scratches the classic MUD itch: exploring, crafting, character progression, and a world that feels alive and constantly evolving. It’s the kind of game where I can log in, explore a bit, discover something new, and slowly build my character over time.
Stellar Aeon is very different but just as satisfying. It’s a text-driven space exploration and management game where you discover systems, expand influence, and watch a simulated universe unfold. It really hits that “systems interacting with systems” sweet spot that makes me want to keep experimenting.
I also enjoy incremental games (things like Cookie Clicker, Trimps, ComputeClicker, etc.), but lately a lot of them feel very similar once you’ve played a bunch. I still enjoy them, but they don’t hold my attention the same way they used to.
I’ve also looked at programming games and automation games, which seem like they should be perfect for me, but most of the ones I’ve found so far aren’t very accessible with screen readers.
For context: I’m totally blind and use a screen reader, so text-based games tend to work best for me.
Interestingly, a lot of audiogames actually don’t work well for me either, because many rely heavily on spatial audio or reaction timing.
I’m definitely open to games that normally rely on audio if they have mods or modes where most information is available in text.
Navigation can also be tricky. I can handle spatial navigation if a game provides helpful tools like:

• coordinates
• compass directions
• map commands
• “find” or “locate” commands
• clear text descriptions of the environment

Some MUDs do this really well, but many games unfortunately don’t include those kinds of tools.
So I’m curious:
If you enjoy text-based games, MUDs, incremental games, simulation games, or anything similar, what are you playing these days?
I’m always interested in discovering new worlds to explore.
