Ich, #Mac Mini M2 hervor gekramt um #Apple #AI für #Julia zu testen. Ich hatte das Teil komplett zurück gesetzt. Naja, nach dem Download von Sequoia für die Installation (zusammen eine gute Stunde oder mehr) wurde mir das Update auf 26.x vorgeschlagen. So, Belkin is killing off the WeMo app at the end of the month, & Apple is forcing the HomeKit upgrade by February 10. We have WeMo smart plugs all over the place & are using an old iPad as our HomeKit hub. A Raspberry Pi with @homeassistant is running it all. We plan on buying an Apple TV to replace the iPad but are waiting for the new models to drop.

We may need to come up with some sort of plan B… 😬

"Liquid Glass" Design language: Looks like "liquid ass" amirite fellow smart Mac users? The idea is that there's a layer of transparency at the top that's suppose to say "General" and then that the text goes "below it" when you scroll. We thought that thing was cool around ~2004 but I guess it's, sadly, coming back. Anyhow, the text gets jarbled with "General" so it's just a mess of letters at the top. Peak UI.

Woke up in hell. Put iOS 26.2 on my phone last night, woke up and across all my devices, Safari has totally reset. All my tabs and tab groups are gone, not in history, not in recover last window, etc.

I think it says something to how good Apple is that this is the worst problem I've had with their patches since I moved over at OS X but still... I have no idea what half those sites were. This will, no joke, take me an hour or two to figure out.

Yup so the fix is to take your desktop mac offline (hope you have one!), shut down safari, restore the safari library files from backup, open safari, pick option to copy all links from each tab group, paste each into a doc. Reconnect to internet, watch them all wipe out. Then manually recreate all the tab groups. Or, you know, just go put them into Firefox because you don't trust Apple anymore. #ios26 #apple #bug #safari

Watching some #apple users fight their way through life with their evermore cursed devices is a lot like watching someone in a DV situation.

I truly hate the guy at Apple who decided the trackpad could be so close to the bottom border. It was fine 2 cm shorter.

Now when I lay down with my laptop on my belly it regularly touches it and I forced back into a respectable position I didn’t ask for.

So I have two solutions :
⁃ Make so much muscle that my belly doesn’t bend anymore
⁃ Find some 2cm piece of plastic I can put down there on my belly so it doesn’t happen.

Several developers started to provide options to remove menu icons from their app.

This should be a global setting.

#Apple does not provide this (and probably won’t in the near future.)

RFC: Lets agree on one domain to store those kind of “should be global” settings. We would need a git repo of those well known keys. (e.g. “menu.icons.disabled”)

Users could use `defaults write local.wellknown.settings menu.icons.disabled true` to regain sanity across apps.

There could be an App for that.

Actually cancelling #Apple services is difficult for many. I'm sure some would stay cancelled, while others (myself included) would resubscribe quickly to limit disruptions for family members. Changing ecosystems is rough. But I expect that even a spike in cancelations and resubscriptions would be enough to get folks to look more deeply, and perhaps get more media coverage. (3/4)
