I'd used Apple tech for 30 years and have had no problem switching to GNU/Linux. I've written a series of blog posts about the process linked below.

I'm mostly using the Mint distribution of GNU/Linux on a 2018 used Lenovo laptop that cost $250 on eBay. It boots as quickly as an M1 MacMini and opens/runs apps just as quickly. Not only are modern versions of GNU/Linux easy to test run but also easy to install and use. Mint looks very nice and if you prefer the look of macOS it's not too hard to do with various customizations. Or try the @elementary distribution of Linux which, out of the box has a macOS feel.

Was ich an der Folge fast spannender finde als die Apple-Frage: Sascha geht nochmal an seinen eigenen Text von damals ran und prüft ihn gegen das, was inzwischen passiert ist. Nicht mit „hab ich doch gesagt“, sondern ziemlich kritisch. Das muss man auch erstmal machen.

I can't seem to find a decent answer to this -- I have some #iMessages on my iPhone that need to be 'printed' (to PDF) to help resolve a legal issue. It used to be that my Mac and Phone synced #iMessage automatically. In fact, it still appears to, for selected individuals / conversations.

There's a new "Enable Messages in #iCloud" checkbox that I've never seen before, which appears to need enabling before I can click the 'Sync Now' button which was always there before.

As someone who doesn't provide *any* access to *any* cloud provider due to the problematic jurisdiction of these companies (Hello #NSA and #FISA!) -- if I click the magic checkbox, am I essentially sending years worth of private conversations to #Apple and by extension, the US-based Three-Letter-Agencies (#TLAs)?

(Of course, I'm assuming that Apple doesn't surreptitiously do this already, because it would entirely destroy their market share overnight if revealed.)

Insight is appreciated as always!
