undefined | Apple unveils its most affordable laptop ever. What the MacBook Neo means for investors

Apple unveiled its lowest‑priced laptop ever, the MacBook Neo, priced at $599—almost half the cost of its higher‑end models. The Neo is aimed at budget‑conscious consumers who need basic computing tasks such as word processing, web browsing, and using AI chatbots, with college students being a primary target, especially given a $100 education discount. By entering the low‑end market dominated by Chromebooks and inexpensive Windows notebooks, Apple hopes to draw new users into its ecosystem, following the same playbook that turned the iPhone, App Store, and AirPods into massive revenue generators.

Analysts see the Neo not as a short‑term sales boost but as a long‑term customer‑acquisition tool. JPMorgan’s Samik Chatterjee notes that capturing students early locks them into Apple’s services as they graduate and earn more, while Bank of America estimates a $32 billion addressable market by 2026, with a modest 10 % share potentially adding a few cents to Apple’s EPS. Even as Apple’s device gross margins may dip from the high‑30s to low‑30s percentage range, the company’s massive services division—Apple Music, TV+, iCloud, App Store, and licensing—offers higher‑margin, recurring revenue that benefits from a larger installed‑base.

The launch also highlights Apple’s advantageous supply‑chain position amid rising memory costs and PC‑price inflation. Long‑term supplier contracts and scale let Apple secure cheaper components, giving it flexibility to prioritize growth or market‑share gains while rivals wrestle with tighter margins. Bottom line: the MacBook Neo serves as a gateway to Apple’s sticky ecosystem, likely bolstering its high‑margin services over time even if it modestly pressures hardware margins. The move aligns with Apple’s historical strategy of entering existing categories with a superior offering, then leveraging that foothold to drive broader, long‑term profitability.

Oh, but it's even worse than that. From TFA:

Authorities have turned to push notifications more broadly as an investigative strategy too; in June 404 Media reported Apple gave governments data on thousands of push notifications. Those were legal demands made to Apple, while the Prairieland case was about data from a device authorities had physical access to.

This suggests that your are sent home to . Why is that necessary?

                              I have further questions:

                              • Why, and for whose benefit, were notifications stored on the phone after the app had been removed? They were useless to the other of the phone.
                              • How much of this vulnerability is shared with Android phones?

They could be retrieved by the FBI from the US company Apple's push notification database.

A new leak suggests Apple may skip offering a black color option for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, marking the second consecutive year without the popular finish. This follows a trend of Pro models featuring newer, more distinctive shades. The leak also hints at design changes like a smaller Dynamic Island and potential camera and performance upgrades.

Apple shares dropped about 4 percent on Tuesday after Nikkei Asia reported that the company is encountering engineering hurdles with its first foldable iPhone. A source familiar with the situation told the outlet that Apple and its supply‑chain partners are “working under a pressured timeline,” but the current fixes are insufficient and more time is needed to resolve the problems. The delay could push back the launch of the foldable device, which had been slated to debut alongside the iPhone 18 in September 2026.

The foldable phone was expected to be Apple’s next major product innovation, joining the four new iPhone models that the company announces each September. While Samsung and Huawei have offered foldable phones since 2019, Apple’s entry into the segment has been highly anticipated because iPhones generate more than half of Apple’s roughly $143.8 billion revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2026. Nikkei noted that the current memory‑chip shortage is not a factor in the delay; the issue lies primarily with the device’s engineering design.

Analysts see the April‑through‑early‑May window as critical for Apple to solve the technical challenges before moving into production. If the setbacks persist, the company may need to adjust its product roadmap and could see further pressure on its stock price, especially as competitors continue to expand their foldable‑phone offerings. CNBC reached out to Apple for comment and has not received a response at this time.

@Amgine I think the more effective place to counteract the trend towards ID everywhere is through privacy laws prohibiting requiring ID where unnecessary (with some detail about what's necessary).

Requiring proof or attestation of ID to attain verification that one has the name and face one claims to have is necessary: otherwise, LinkedIn (etc.) would be complicit in impersonation, fraud, libel, etc.

Requiring proof or attestation of ID is unnecessary to, for example, sell alcohol online, but anonymous proof or attestation of age is necessary.

Requiring proof or attestation of ID or age to, for example, read a factual article should be prohibited under privacy law.

The benefits and harms can be balanced, and doing so—explicitly allowing the claimed legitimate purpose on the condition of accomplishing that purpose in a manner which defeats the unstated and unjust purpose—would be more effective than delegating it to foreign jurisdictions. For example, it would be much harder to sell digital ID laws to voters if proven systems are already in place for anonymous proof-of-age.

The privacy jurisdictions could protect citizens and residents by beating the surveillance jurisdictions to it: providing exactly the claimed purpose (e.g., preventing children accessing porn) in a manner which defeats the unstated purpose (e.g., tracking which adult who looks at what). It becomes politically untenable to sell the privacy violating mechanism to voters once they see a privacy preserving one in use: especially when one breach leaks ID documents, and the other breach leaks useless and inconsequential digital signatures of random one-time tokens.

It's kinda like if, in discussions, legislators were to pretend to believe (etc.) that parts pairing is an anti-theft measure, and to require them to authorize any pairing, free of charge, upon presentation of proof of ownership to Apple or to any regulatorily required designated attestor.

Pretend to believe them about the purpose of a proof of ID or age requirement, provide a means to prove nothing more than strictly necessary, and require they accept it.

                                                                            [?]KillBait News » 🤖 🌐

I'm still figuring out how to navigate around with VoiceOver, for example, I haven't been able to download anything from the App Store yet, but I'm optimistic it's going to be a useful tool. I'm not sure when, if ever, it'll replace my Windows laptop though.

Services chief Eddy Cue revealed a clever workaround: batching multiple purchases into a single transaction to minimize fees. This strategy, still used today for App Store and Apple Music, ensured profitability and fueled the massive success of iTunes, laying the groundwork for Apple's $109 billion services empire.

                                                                                                              Come attivare ChatGpt in auto

ChatGPT is also coming to cars: here’s how to activate it while driving with Ai.

Imagine driving and, instead of talking only with Siri, being able to chat with ChatGPT without taking your hands off the steering wheel. With Apple’s latest update, iOS 26.4, this scenario is no longer science fiction: third-party artificial intelligence officially enters our vehicles via CarPlay. The update, released on March 24th, isn’t just about new emojis and minor system improvements. One of the most interesting new features is the opening of the in-car interface to external conversational assistants, which until today were relegated to smartphones and tablets. In practice, Siri finally shares space on the dashboard with evolved chatbots like ChatGPT, although for the moment only via voice commands and with a stripped-down interface to avoid distractions while driving.

How to activate ChatGPT in your car
Using ChatGPT on CarPlay is simple: you just need an iPhone updated to iOS 26.4 and the latest version of the OpenAI app. Once the phone is connected, via cable or wireless, the ChatGPT icon will appear on the digital dashboard ready to answer questions, suggest routes, or even tell a joke to make the journey lighter. If the assistant doesn’t appear immediately, simply check in CarPlay settings that ChatGPT is enabled for your car.

Keep an eye on the road
The new tool promises convenience, but it also brings new responsibilities: pedestrians, cyclists and scooter riders must be even more attentive. Distracted driving remains the main danger, and now potentially distracting conversations with AI are also present. Apple has thought of a compromise: no text to type, only voice commands, so as to reduce the risks without blocking the technological novelty.

                                                                                                              A look to the future
This is just an appetizer: the real revolution will arrive with iOS 27, which should make the integration of artificial intelligence even deeper and more functional. For now, the most curious motorists can experience a virtual assistant that no longer lives only on the smartphone, but accompanies every journey, ready to answer questions, help with navigation or simply keep company at the wheel.

The article ChatGPT arrives also in cars: here’s how to activate it to talk to AI while driving comes from Il Fatto Quotidiano.
