So, Belkin is killing off the WeMo app at the end of the month, & Apple is forcing the HomeKit upgrade by February 10. We have WeMo smart plugs all over the place & are using an old iPad as our HomeKit hub. A Raspberry Pi with @homeassistant is running it all. We plan on buying an Apple TV to replace the iPad but are waiting for the new models to drop.

We may need to come up with some sort of plan B… 😬

The idea is that there's a layer of transparency at the top that's suppose to say "General" and then that the text goes "below it" when you scroll. Woke up in hell. Put iOS 26.2 on my phone last night, woke up and across all my devices, Safari has totally reset. All my tabs and tab groups are gone, not in history, not in recover last window, etc.

I think it says something to how good Apple is that this is the worst problem I've had with their patches since I moved over at OS X but still... I have no idea what half those sites were. This will, no joke, take me an hour or two to figure out.

Reconnect to internet, watch them all wipe out. Then manually recreate all the tab groups. Actually cancelling #Apple services is difficult for many. I'm sure some would stay cancelled, while others (myself included) would resubscribe quickly to limit disruptions for family members. Changing ecosystems is rough. But I expect that even a spike in cancelations and resubscriptions would be enough to get folks to look more deeply, and perhaps get more media coverage. (3/4)

Oh, yeah, one of my little projects: turning this 2012 Mac Mini into a retro gaming console. It’s running Linux Mint with RetroArch + EmulationStation. I call it “Pippinux” because Apple Pippin was a thing, and Linux. Currently it just has our N64 library but eventually will have our full retro game collection, which isn’t impressive by any means but gives me an excuse to start collecting them again.

I hope it's only a temporary glitch, but suddenly the UBS home banking login page does not seem to work on Firefox anymore (it works with Chrome). This also happens with a fresh Firefox install (no addons, mods, anything).

If this is true, then this means that from now on, the largest Swiss bank only allows customers to use their home banking with either their proprietary app (which of course requires Google Play Protection and does not work on Graphene OS), or with a hardware token plus a US-megacorp controlled browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari).

Very compact, very practical, it fits perfectly in my small shoulder bag or in my smartphone holder next to my bed.

But what impresses me most is the incredible battery life! With my moderate use, the battery actually lasts a whole week. Remarkable. As are the performance, the pen support (great for editing and signing documents!) and the rather unique form factor. And that also eases my conscience a little, knowing that there is no free alternative. Unfortunately.

Any technical descriptions of the recent iPad virtual memory design and virtual swap around?

I’ve been poking at DDG and Google search and the WWDC Developer app for way too long, and can find basically nothing. Nothing past the Apple announcement text regurgitated, that is.

Virtual memory and physical memory, and paging and swapping, I understand, and iOS has no dirty paging, but finding technical details of iPadOS and what Apple calls virtual swap (WWDC22, etc) escapes me.

Cloest I can find for technical info is the iOS memory deep dive from WWDC18. Which predates the virtual swap work.
