Mein größter SM-Fehler war es, eine Hobby-Gruppe bei zu starten. Wie der Zauberlehrling mit den Besen werde ich das nicht mehr los. Aber auch da poste ich oft nur noch Links. Ebenso in meinen anderen SM Hobby Accounts (, , …

Tim Cook, Apple CEO is causing serious harm to Apple’s brand.

Cook’s presence at the White House screening of Melania on Saturday should be the last straw for Apple shareholders and the Apple Board of Directors. There is nothing to justify his presence other than sheer clueless stupidity.

Cook is harming Apple’s brand through his association with Trump. Cook’s actions:
                                                  - Personally gave $1 million to Trump’s inaugural committee
                                                  - Apple/Cook is/has donated to Trump’s ballroom
                                                  - Cook attempting to curry favors from Trump with trivial gifts and attendance at Mara Lago and the WhiteHouse

Cook’s actions will not benefit Apple. Association with Trump always leads to negative outcomes and will only harm Apple’s brand.

There’s no excuse or justification for Cook’s actions. It’s time for Tim Cook to go.

Apple CEO Tim Cook gets blasted for attending 'Melania' screening at White House

Apple CEO Tim Cook attended Saturday’s private screening of Melania, the documentary about First Lady Melania Trump, at the White House, and many online commenters have reacted by excoriating Cook and calling for boycotts of Apple products.

Cook, who is gay, is among many tech leaders who have cozied up to Donald Trump and his family. Other tech CEOs who were at the screening included Andy Jassy of Amazon, Eric Yuan of Zoom, and Lisa Su of AMD, Yahoo! News reports. They were among about 70 guests at the East Room screening. The film is from Amazon Studios.

The event came just hours after Alex Pretti was shot to death by Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis. The 37-year-old nurse was observing and protesting operations by Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and video shows him trying to help a woman who was being pepper-sprayed before agents wrestled him to the ground and shot him multiple times. The Trump administration has tried to paint this as a case of self-defense by federal agents, as it did with the killing of Renee Nicole Good, but in both cases, video shows otherwise.

“If you’re a CEO willing to sit in the company of this regime, your ‘shareholder value’ excuse feels pretty blood-soaked tonight,” Lincoln Project cofounder and former Republican political consultant Rick Wilson posted on X.

“It’s revolting — especially Tim Cook,” one person wrote in response to Wilson’s post. “I’m never buying another Apple product in my life — even though I have several [expletive] dozen!”

“Tim Cook and Andy Jassy — and the rest—are accommodating an authoritarian who is presiding over a secret police force killing American citizens,” commented David Corn, Washington bureau chief for the liberal magazine Mother Jones. “The blood of Renee Good and Alex Pretti is on the hands of those who enable Trump. Hope they like the movie.”

Related: Apple CEO Tim Cook joins other major business leaders with $1 million personal donation to Trump’s inauguration

Adam Cochran, a professor and consultant, addressed Cook in an X post: “As one of the few Silicon Valley folks I know has a spine hidden somewhere, I have to ask you: How was this movie? The one you watched while Americans were shot. While ICE tracking apps were banned from the App Store. While you stayed silent on Trump. The one you were invited to by the man you donated $1M to the inauguration fund of? The same man who shits on the rights and values you’ve worked hard for at Apple — like environmental causes and LGTBQ rights? How was that movie Tim? Was it worth the price of admission?”

Cook has caught more flak than the others who attended the screening precisely because of those liberal values. He was the first out gay CEO of a Fortune 500 company, and he has spoken out against anti-transgender “bathroom bills” and “license to discriminate” legislation. His X bio includes a quote from Martin Luther King Jr.: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’”

An X user commented, “I think @tim_cook should take the MLK quote out of his bio. Feels off-brand for the guy who attended a private screening of the Brett Ratner MELANIA doc.”

Ratner has largely been shunned in the movie business since he was accused of sexual misconduct, allegations that first surfaced in 2017 (he has denied any wrongdoing). Melania represents a comeback for Ratner, who lived at the Trumps’ Mar-a-Lago mansion during filming, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Ratner is also set to direct ‘Rush Hour 4’ for Paramount after President Trump reportedly pressed owner Larry Ellison to revive the stalled franchise,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

Cook was photographed with Ratner at the screening, where other guests included former boxer and convicted rapist Mike Tyson.

So far Cook has not responded to the criticism, nor has Apple.

Tim Cook and Sam Altman refuse to condemn Trump admin after Alex Pretti’s killing

Out U.S. tech titans are continuing to bend the knee to Donald Trump, as Sam Altman and Tim Cook release statements seemingly trying to appease their employees but also not alienate the president too much.

Apple CEO Cook sent out an internal statement to employees, first obtained by Bloomberg, after receiving intense scrutiny for attending Saturday’s private screening of Melania, a documentary about First Lady Melania Trump, at the White House.

The event came just hours after Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old VA nurse, was fatally shot by Department of Homeland Security agents while observing operations in Minneapolis. Video shows Pretti attempted to help a woman who was being pepper-sprayed before officers wrestled him to the ground and took his legal firearm. While Pretti was restrained on the ground and unarmed, an unidentified weapon held by one of the agents discharged, and two unidentified agents responded by shooting Pretti at least 10 times.

In the memo, which is 158 words in length yet devoid of substance, Cook stated, "I'm heartbroken by the events in Minneapolis, and my prayers and deepest sympathies are with the families, with the communities, and with everyone that's been affected.

"This is a time for deescalation," Cook wrote. "I believe America is strongest when we live up to our highest ideals, when we treat everyone with dignity and respect no matter who they are or where they're from, and when we embrace our shared humanity. This is something Apple has always advocated for."

"I had a good conversation with the president this week where I shared my views, and I appreciate his openness to engaging on issues that matter to us all," Cook continued. "I know this is very emotional and challenging for so many. I am proud of how deeply our teams care about the world beyond our walls. That empathy is one of Apple's greatest strengths and it is something I believe we all cherish."

Meanwhile, Altman told OpenAI employees in a memo obtained by The New York Times that while "what’s happening with [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] is going too far," he and the company are "not going to make a lot of performative statements now about safety or politics or anything else."

"I love the US and its values of democracy and freedom and will be supportive of the country however I can; OpenAI will too," Altman wrote. "But part of loving the country is the American duty to push back against overreach. What’s happening with ICE is going too far. There is a big difference between deporting violent criminals and what’s happening now, and we need to get the distinction right."

"President Trump is a very strong leader, and I hope he will rise to this moment and unite the country, he added. "I am encouraged by the last few hours of response and hope to see trust rebuilt with transparent investigations."

Cook and Altman were two of the several billionaires who sat in the front row at Trump's inauguration. Cook personally donated $1 million to his 2025 inauguratio fund, and later announced at a White House press conference in August that the company would be pledging $100 billion for the “American Manufacturing Program," bringing Apple’s investments in the Trump administration to $600 billion over the next four years.

Altman's attendance came in the wake of Trump rescinding an executive order from President Joe Biden placing guardrails around AI development, while also announcing a $500 billion private sector investment in AI infrastructure known as Stargate, which OpenAI is leading.

This also happens with a fresh Firefox install (no addons, mods, anything).

If this is true, then this means that from now on, the largest Swiss bank only allows customers to use their home banking with either their proprietary app (which of course requires Google Play Protection and does not work on Graphene OS), or with a hardware token plus a US-megacorp controlled browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari).

There is nothing to justify his presence other than sheer clueless stupidity.

In my rant about US products and US services and as part of my boycott of these services due to the new fascism in the US under Trump, I mistakenly referred to them as American or an American project – which, according to a clarification from the GrapheneOS team, is absolute nonsense! I would like to thank GrapheneOS for clearing up my misconception!

It was absolutely not my intention to spread false information or defame anyone for their great work – many years ago, when I first started working with CopperheadOS and then GrapheneOS, I read somewhere that Mr. Micay and the project were from the US. Unfortunately, after all these years, I can no longer trace this source.

So there was no malicious intent behind this claim, it was simply the passing on of false information in good faith. I would like to apologize once again to everyone affected!

I came across my old laptop again: a 2019 16" MacBook Pro, the last Intel model. I think it was one of the worst devices I’ve ever owned: sluggish, fans always loud, and the case 'polished' down quickly just from my hands. I used it for about a year, then passed it to my wife when I got the M1 Pro MBP - which I’m still using - in early 2022. By comparison, the Apple Silicon model feels brand new, even after four years of fairly intense use.

My wife had to stop using the 'old' one because the battery, despite having very few charge cycles, is practically dead. It doesn’t hold a charge, but that wouldn’t even be the biggest issue. The real trouble is that without a functional battery, it has become incredibly slow, with the fans constantly blasting, making it unusable. I tried turning it on again, but it even struggles to launch the macOS installer. I’m stuck: replacing the battery would cost 289 euros (from what I’ve read, the entire top case needs to be replaced), but I hate to leave it like this, as the hardware and screen still have a lot to offer.

I’ve thought about selling it as-is, but I think it would be difficult - an inexperienced buyer wouldn't understand that the slowness is caused specifically by the battery issue.

                                                                                                                                                                                    Any advice?
