At this point, I must sincerely and publicly apologize to Mr. Daniel Micay and the entire GrapheneOS team! In my rant about US products and US services and as part of my boycott of these services due to the new fascism in the US under Trump, I mistakenly referred to them as American or an American project – which, according to a clarification from the GrapheneOS team, is absolute nonsense! I would like to thank GrapheneOS for clearing up my misconception!

It was absolutely not my intention to spread false information or defame anyone for their great work – many years ago, when I first started working with CopperheadOS and then GrapheneOS, I read somewhere that Mr. Micay and the project were from the US. Unfortunately, after all these years, I can no longer trace this source.

So there was no malicious intent behind this claim, it was simply the passing on of false information in good faith. I would like to apologize once again to everyone affected!

But thankfully, other users were better informed than I was and also brought this to my attention.

So far, I’m really enjoying the iPadOS 26 update. It’s amazing to see Apple invest in making the iPad feel more capable while still retaining a lot of the simplicity that made the platform appealing in the first place.

I think I’m still in the getting used to it phase, and I feel excited to see what I’ll uncover after a few more weeks of use.

This afternoon, I took advantage of the rain to tidy up and clean my desk, as well as part of the cabinet to my right, which houses the switch and the Raspberry Pi 4 (powered by FreeBSD) that I use for various services.

I came across my old laptop again: a 2019 16" MacBook Pro, the last Intel model. I think it was one of the worst devices I’ve ever owned: sluggish, fans always loud, and the case 'polished' down quickly just from my hands. I used it for about a year, then passed it to my wife when I got the M1 Pro MBP - which I’m still using - in early 2022. By comparison, the Apple Silicon model feels brand new, even after four years of fairly intense use.

My wife had to stop using the 'old' one because the battery, despite having very few charge cycles, is practically dead. It doesn’t hold a charge, but that wouldn’t even be the biggest issue. The real trouble is that without a functional battery, it has become incredibly slow, with the fans constantly blasting, making it unusable. I tried turning it on again, but it even struggles to launch the macOS installer. I’m stuck: replacing the battery would cost 289 euros (from what I’ve read, the entire top case needs to be replaced), but I hate to leave it like this, as the hardware and screen still have a lot to offer.

I’ve thought about selling it as-is, but I think it would be difficult - an inexperienced buyer wouldn't understand that the slowness is caused specifically by the battery issue.

Any advice?

Considering that under Trump, the US is turning into a fascist terror state where opponents of the orange leader are simply shot dead on the street by his private Gestapo, ICE, or persecuted by his terror justice system, I am considering completely disposing of all US hardware and services that I still use to some extent.

In addition to Linux and Pixel with GrapheneOS, I unfortunately still use a few Apple devices such as MacBook Air, iPhone, Watch, and iPad Mini, and of course I also have a Google and Amazon account for some services. And it is precisely these that now need to be carefully deleted or replaced.

This includes the Pixel with GrapheneOS, both of which come from the US, and there's no telling what else the GrapheneOS team will be forced to do by this criminal government. Under fascism, there is no freedom, no privacy!

In the end, all that's left is an old dumb phone from Nokia. Apple, Amazon, and Google must go completely, and they can be replaced. It's purely for convenience that I haven't completely eliminated them yet. The planned Framework laptop is also canceled. Fedora/RHEL must be replaced by European Linux solutions. Signal, as a US service, also falls under the Cloud Act and is no longer acceptable.

I have a lot of planning and work ahead of me now...

I finally figured out why windows get randomly resized when I drag them around in macOS. It started about a year ago and first I thought it's a bug in Firefox or macOS, but the problem persisted.

Today I finally found the "Drag Windows to menu bar to fill screen" option (default on) in System Settings.

I wonder when they sneaked this in and who asked for this "feature".

Made a major food discovery. I've been eating HoneyCrisp apples for years BUT...

Recently I discovered the CRIMSON CRISP apple and let me tell ya, it is WONDERFUL.

It's crunchy and tart and meaty and delicious! Smooth and without the heavy fibre feeling of a Red Delicious but more appley than a HoneyCrisp.

I'll still switch it up and jump back into HoneyCrisp from time to time. But it's nice to have an equal alternative.

Ich habe dazu KEINE LUST mehr! Seit Mitte der 90er waren diese Basteleien viele Jahre wirklich spannend und haben meistens Spaß gemacht. Lehrreich sowieso. Diese Zeiten sind vorbei. Jetzt möchte ich mit einem funktionierenden System einfach nur IN RUHE arbeiten. Und da #Microsoft und #Apple nicht infrage kommen, bleibt nur #Linux übrig. Aufgeblähte Monster wie #KDE sind dabei ausgeschlossen. Und nachdem ich gestern den neusten #Gnome sah, war ich entsetzt, zu welch unbedienbarem Schickmicki sich der entwickelt hat. #XFCE mag ich nicht.

Die #wayland #sway Version von #CuerdOS habe ich eben als Live-System getestet. Fehlende Programme haben den Test gestoppt. Doch vielleicht sollte ich mich noch einmal in neue Werkzeuge einarbeiten und habe dann – hoffentlich – Ruhe?

Im Moment bin ich einfach nur frustriert, genervt und komme nicht weiter, weil ich im Grunde schon zu einer kompletten Neueinrichtung unmotiviert bin. 😞

The more I use my phone rather than a computer, the more I’m really starting to understand that VoiceOver, as a screen reader, is fundamentally broken on the iPhone and I don’t think it can be repaired. I just had three cases where I opened an app, or navigated to a new screen, and voiceover jumped focus three times without me ever touching the screen. I also constantly have to navigate a typing delay. There is a significant delay now where VoiceOver will, on occasion, more than not, just randomly decide not to say the key my finger is navigating over when typing. It feels like everything about VoiceOver is very sluggish in this latest operating system version. I genuinely think that VoiceOver is broken in so many ways that it’s more advantageous to use a desktop and a desktop screen reader. Even with NVDA’s flaws, it’s 1 million times more useful than what I’ve just encountered. I don’t understand the blind folks that exclusively use an iPhone without a computer by choice. Those blind people have a fuck ton more patience than I do. #Apple

Fuck, no, Apple. I was forced to update to iOS 26 due to lack of security updates for 18 on devices that can run 26 (i.e., due to extortion) but you’re not infecting my Mac with Liquid Ass.

Notice the dark pattern of pestering you in hopes you will accidentally hit the “Restart” button even though you’ve specifically turned off auto updates. Microsoft-level disrespect for consent here.

Bin heut Abend mit meinem alten Intel MacBook beschäftigt, hatte Mint 22.1 installiert letzte Woche was so la la lief. Heute Abend das System durch geupdatet auf Ver. 22.3 und es scheint bereits besser zu laufen.

Hatte mir Zorin OS 18 besorgt für das MacBook (soll auch dafür sein) und das startet gar nicht vom Stick, nun hab ich mir noch Arch Linux besorgt aber vorerst teste ich das neue Mint auf dem MacBook noch eine Weile.

@BasicAppleGuy Those new icons are a reflection of the workforce at #Apple today. I can guarantee you whoever designed the current icons probably worked with digital tools all their life. While those who designed the original icons were likely professionally trained illustrators who used pencils, pens, rulers, and drafting tables for sketching, along with specialized items like X-Acto knives, rubber cement, and T-squares for manual paste-up. Its trade off of the digital society we now live in.

So my phone tricked me into updating to iOS 26 (nice one, asshats). And wow: it really is a case study in form over function. Gratuitous, meaningless aesthetics and motion. Decoration, not design. “Look what I can do!”

Nah, fuck it, turned everything back on again. Why should I fix your damn broken interface and fool myself into thinking this piece of shit is anything but?
