Il Fatto Quotidiano: ChatGpt arriva anche in auto: ecco come attivarlo per parlare con l’Ai mentre si è al volante
Immaginate di guidare e, invece di parlare solo con Siri, poter chiacchierare con ChatGpt senza staccare le mani dal volante. Con l’ultimo aggiornamento di Apple, iOS 26.4, questo scenario non è più fantascienza: l’intelligenza artificiale di terze parti entra ufficialmente nei nostri veicoli tramite CarPlay. L’aggiornamento, rilasciato il 24 marzo, non si limita a nuove emoji e piccoli miglioramenti di sistema. Tra le novità più interessanti c’è proprio l’apertura dell’interfaccia di bordo agli assistenti conversazionali esterni, che fino a oggi erano relegati a smartphone e tablet. In pratica, Siri condivide finalmente lo spazio sul cruscotto con chatbot evoluti come ChatGpt, anche se per il momento solo tramite comandi vocali e con un’interfaccia ridotta all’osso per evitare distrazioni durante la guida.
Come attivare ChatGpt in auto
Usare ChatGpt su CarPlay è semplice: basta un iPhone aggiornato a iOS 26.4 e l’ultima versione dell’app OpenAI. Una volta collegato il telefono, via cavo o wireless, l’icona di ChatGpt apparirà sul cruscotto digitale pronta per rispondere a domande, suggerire itinerari o persino raccontare una barzelletta per rendere il viaggio più leggero. Se l’assistente non compare subito, è sufficiente verificare nelle impostazioni CarPlay che ChatGpt sia abilitata per la propria auto.
Occhi aperti alla strada
Il nuovo strumento promette comodità, ma porta anche nuove responsabilità: pedoni, ciclisti e scooteristi devono stare ancora più attenti. La guida distratta resta il principale pericolo, e ora a potenzialmente distrarre ci sono anche le conversazioni con l’IA. Apple ha pensato a un compromesso: nessun testo da digitare, solo comandi vocali, così da ridurre i rischi senza bloccare la novità tecnologica.
Uno sguardo al futuro
Questo è solo l’antipasto: la vera rivoluzione arriverà con iOS 27, che dovrebbe rendere l’integrazione dell’intelligenza artificiale ancora più profonda e funzionale. In practice, Siri finally shares space on the dashboard with evolved chatbots like ChatGPT, although for the moment only via voice commands and with a stripped-down interface to avoid distractions while driving.
How to activate ChatGPT in your car
Using ChatGPT on CarPlay is simple: you just need an iPhone updated to iOS 26.4 and the latest version of the OpenAI app. Once the phone is connected, via cable or wireless, the ChatGPT icon will appear on the digital dashboard ready to answer questions, suggest routes, or even tell a joke to make the journey lighter. If the assistant doesn’t appear immediately, simply check in CarPlay settings that ChatGPT is enabled for your car.

The new tool promises convenience, but it also brings new responsibilities: pedestrians, cyclists and scooter riders must be even more attentive. Years in, the best thing that can happen with #apple intelligence is still getting their #ios keyboard and #siri in general to something that belongs to this current decade of tech and user experience.
I believe the challenge is a culture of hardware jewellery where the line still goes up for stakeholders and that being enough of a vision for excel-minded CEOs like Tim Cook.
Ordinary people also just love the hardware and don't understand why it hurts to actually use it.

The update initially only covered 4 older models. Apples doing something rare—backporting security patches across the entire supported device range. When Apple backports to every supported device, the threat is serious enough to break their own update policy.

It never made sense to me that the Mac Pro “had” to change away from this general design. A well-designed computer can be respected as art, but its primary purpose is still to be a computer. An all-in-one box that can be thrown in the car between gigs. Just plug in a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and your audio inputs, cameras, whatever it is you do with it. No fiddly external devices needed. The only complaints I ever heard are that it’s a bit heavy and the handles dig into your hands.
Post-Steve Jobs comeback Apple was able to pull off making their towers an art piece *and* a functional workhorse. Why did Tim Cook-era Apple overlook and fail to make this balance? They killed the market for the product and only just started to win some of those customers back with Apple Silicon, but not without making a mess of the driver infrastructure, and making discrete GPUs impossible. This is after they broke the cadence of yearly Mac Pro refreshes to make way for 6 years of the Thermal Corner™ cylinder model, making a bet (dual GPUs with custom cooling) that wasn’t that useful to its customers, and would overheat and die.
Why spend more to invest in the Mac platform when Dell would love to sell you a boring Windows tower that’s unopinionated and does what you need?

A somewhat unusual "Macintosh" for this year's MARCHintosh offering...
Here is my Atari 520ST running Spectre, a Macintosh emulator (or translator, perhaps more accurately) which features actual Macintosh Plus ROMs (user must provide) and in 1989 (along with Magic Sac which preceded it in 1986) was "the only legal Macintosh clone." Gadgets by Small, who made the device, called it 20% faster than a Mac Plus, with a 30% larger screen size (640x400 on the ST monochrome display vs. 512x342 on the early Macs).
The Atari 520STm shown here features an 8MHz MC68000, has been expanded to 4MB RAM (up from 512K), features an HxC2001 floppy emulator, an ACSI2STM hard disk emulator, and dual Atari RGB and monochrome monitors, switchable with a Monitor Master switchbox. The 12-inch SM124 monitor showing Pinball Construction Set for Mac is nearly identical to the early Mac monochrome displays in terms of clarity, the distinctive bluish P4-class phosphor, and its overall "presence." It is a very nice display running at a rock-solid 71Hz.
(A similar series of devices, beginning with the A-Max, was released by ReadySoft for the Commodore Amiga in 1989, though I found the ST options more appealing, in large part due to the superb high-res, non-interlaced monochrome display the ST supported.)

An old saying from my grandparents that went, "Not all that glitters is gold," can be perfectly applied to technology, especially the internet and social media. In fact, I'd say that nowadays almost everything is shit Especially digital activism, which from afar smells of business dealings as dirty as all the others out there. And I say this because of the fundamentalism and fanaticism with which more and more people are advocating for their preferred software or against the one they don't like.
I don't let anyone tell me what device I'm going to use, what operating system, or what application, nor am I going to tell anyone what to do.
Do you like Macbooks or iPhones? Do you use Windows? Do you like Linux? Are you an Ubuntu or Fedora user? Do you prefer Android?
In my previous jobs I learned that if a government wants to find and spy on you, it will do so anyway, no matter what the hell you use. If they can remove a president from his own country they'll find you however they want, and they'll grease your ass with oil if they want to.
Use whatever you want or whatever works well for you. For the past 36 years I've owned many computers and phones, and they're all pretty much the same.What matters is what you do with them.
I have one laptop and one desktop, both running Arch. But if I had more computers I would install Debian, Fedora, etc. on them. I work and have fun with the machines. I think it's great that there are many Linux desktops and many distros, that there are iPhones and Android, Windows, BSD, Unix, and there should be more different things.

The mess that's happening with #Age_verification on UK #iOS devices shows the dangers of closed ecosystems.
You may trust #Apple with your life but if a government asks them to enact authoritarian policies on their devices or give up their business for the whole country they are very likely to capitulate as they did in China and Hong Kong. Bilions of revenue are at stake and their main goal is to grow the profits making stakeholders happy not to fight for your freedom.
On the other hand manufacturers of more open devices may be forced to capitulate but unlike on super closed systems like iOS you still have escape hatches. Government forces the company to take down apps from their store (As China did to apps used by Hong Kong activists to coordinate and protect themselves from the police)? You can distribute an apk. Government imposes OS level age verification? You can download and install a custom firmware made in a country who didn't feel for that madness.

This change is now present in the public 26.4 release. I would guess the assumption is most people have automatic app updates enabled, and never care to manually review release notes.
I am in the opposite camp. I want to explicitly approve an app before it can update, and indie developers who actually care about their craft put a lot of work into detailed release notes that are always worth reading. ⚙️👨🏻💻

Why, oh why, does macOS only enable HiDPI mode for certain monitors?
I recently bought one of those cheap portable monitors to use when I'm away, and connecting to my MacBook it looks great at native resolution (but it's 2560x1600 so text is too tiny!) and the other resolution is 1280x800 ... which looks good but modern apps assume larger real-estate, so it's not usable.
Switching to other mods left a blurry mess ... until, the BetterDisplay app! Which, for the most part, just enables HiDPI mode on your display... and now it looks great at 1600x1000!
Why can't i do this without a third-party app?
