A random Richard Taylor and Aztecing appreciation post.

memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/C

"Aztec" paneling for Starbase in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, from a Propstore.com Auction listing of Star Trek memorabilia. They are two black and white trapezoids with mirrored geometrical details, which are applied to a model, practical or 3D, to break up the hull surface and give it more detail, usually by changing how reflective the surface is, in small, but visible amounts. It also helps sell the scale of the ships. "Greebles" or "Nurnies" are small geometric detail that fulfills a similar purpose.

It's called "Aztecing" because of the pattern similarities to Aztec art. It started with Star Trek: The Motion Picture and has been carried forward. I think Richard Taylor coined the phrase. Richard was the Art Director of TMP in charge of building the refit Enterprise we love so much.

I feel it's high time to state this again: When I watch and write about , I do so with an eye on the production point of view. I know that, in universe, we might see a different part of the medical facilities in that one episode (when I want to talk about a redress of the sickbay set). Or a scanner totally might be multifunctional in universe (when in reality a prop quickly needed to be found so anything already there would do). I'm fascinated by how and why things were ingeniously created/modified/re-used for/on the Star Trek shows and films and it gives me immense pleasure trying to figure this out and write about it. I need nobody to tell me to get a life or touch the grass when I'm so happy at what I'm doing. Please understand, respect and maybe enjoy and learn from this! 🖖

Just a reminder that if you're a fan, you can watch Star Trek episodes for free on just like the old days: Randomly on linear TV!

Yep, none of this B.S. on-demand crap! No sir, you open the PlutoTV app, switch to the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" channel & watch what's on at that moment. No ffwding or pausing. You go to the bathroom, you miss 5min of the episode & there's no rewinding!

Now suck it up & watch Trek the way it was meant to be watched! 😂

Just hearing the word "chroniton" in a episode makes me super excited because it means time travel or temporal anomalies are involved and those are my favourite sci-fi tropes. After 's "Face the Strange", we're watching 's "Shattered" now.👌

I love the creative ways in which temporal anomalies have been depicted on in the past:
's "Face the Strange"↖️
's "Time Amok"↗️
's "Shattered"↙️
's "Cause and Effect"↘️

Turns out there are two connections in this scene from ⬆️↗️now:
The Ubald Klug Terrazza sofa, also seen in 's "Disengage"⬇️ and 's "Jinaal"↘️ and the backdrop, also seen in 's "Final Mission"↖️ and "Tapestry"↙️.😊
