Do we know if that $132 million was just the amount that Doordash stole from their workers? Did it include the costs of investigation and recovery? Were there any punitive damages?

If it was just the amount they stole (or less), there's no incentive for Doordash not to steal again. Frankly, some of their executives should have been arrested, prosecuted, and given hefty sentences. Lacking that, they won't learn anything!

AGI - L’azienda di food delivery DoorDash pagherà 131,5 milioni di dollari per chiudere l’indagine del governo della città di New York, che l’accusava di aver sottopagato o ritardato i pagamenti ai propri lavoratori.
Il sindaco di New York, Zohran Mamdani, ha definito l’accordo «la più grande azione di tutela del lavoro mai intrapresa dalla città».
Le accuse su mance e compensi
L’accordo è stato raggiunto quasi otto mesi dopo che il Dipartimento di New York per la tutela dei consumatori e dei lavoratori aveva accusato DoorDash e la rivale Uber Eats di aver ideato «trucchi di progettazione» per privare i lavoratori di oltre 550 milioni di dollari in mance.
DoorDash verserà quasi 115 milioni di dollari di risarcimento a circa 264.000 lavoratori, con un pagamento medio di circa 48 dollari a persona. L’azienda ha inoltre accettato una sanzione civile di 16,7 milioni di dollari.
Nuovi controlli sui pagamenti dei rider
La società ha accettato inoltre di sottoporsi a un nuovo sistema di monitoraggio per garantire il rispetto delle leggi sulla retribuzione dei rider.  In una dichiarazione, DoorDash ha ammesso gli errori e ha affermato: "In poche parole, abbiamo sbagliato".

"Sebbene questi errori non siano stati intenzionali, ciò non li rende accettabili. Noi di DoorDash siamo orgogliosi della nostra eccellenza operativa, e questo non è stato né eccellente né accettabile. I fattorini di DoorDash devono essere pagati per intero, puntualmente e sempre. Ci scusiamo con i fattorini che abbiamo deluso", ha dichiarato l'azienda.

"Quando un lavoratore guadagna uno stipendio, merita di essere pagato per intero, non domani, non dopo una causa legale, ma puntualmente e per intero", ha affermato Mamdani in una dichiarazione. "DoorDash ha sottopagato oltre 260.000 lavoratori e oggi stiamo recuperando quei soldi", ha aggiunto. DoorDash ha dichiarato che molti degli errori di pagamento sono stati causati da "problemi tecnici o si sono verificati in situazioni complesse", come consegne al di fuori dei confini cittadini, con più punti di ritiro o consegna o che includevano consegne annullate o parzialmente completate.

DoorDash will pay $131.5 million to settle a New York City government investigation that accused it of underpaying or delaying payments to its workers.

Mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, called the agreement “the largest labor protection action ever undertaken by the city.”

Accusations Regarding Tips and Compensation
The agreement was reached nearly eight months after the New York Department of Consumer Affairs and Labor accused DoorDash and rival Uber Eats of devising “design tricks” to deprive workers of over $550 million in tips.

DoorDash will pay approximately $115 million in damages to about 264,000 drivers, with an average payment of around $48 per person. The company has also agreed to a civil fine of $16.7 million.

New Oversight of Rider Payments
The company has also agreed to implement a new monitoring system to ensure compliance with laws regarding rider pay. In a statement, DoorDash admitted its mistakes and said: "In short, we got it wrong."

The Company’s Apologies
“Although these errors were not intentional, they do not make them acceptable. At DoorDash, we are proud of our operational excellence, and this was neither excellent nor acceptable. DoorDash drivers must be paid in full, on time, and always. We apologize to the drivers that we have disappointed,” the company stated.

Mayor Mamdani’s Position
“When a worker earns a wage, they deserve to be paid in full, not tomorrow, not after a lawsuit, but promptly and in full,” Mamdani said in a statement. “DoorDash underpaid over 260,000 workers, and today we are recovering those funds,” she added. DoorDash stated that many of the payment errors were caused by “technical issues or occurred in complex situations,” such as deliveries outside city limits, with multiple pickup or delivery points, or that included canceled or partially completed deliveries.
