Chic (stylized CHIC; /ʃiːk/ SHEEK) is an American disco band founded in 1972 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards.[1] Between 1972 and 1979, Chic released several of the biggest hits of the disco era, including "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" (1977), "Everybody Dance" (1977), "Le Freak" (1978), "I Want Your Love" (1978), and "Good Times" (1979). The group regarded themselves as a rock band for the disco movement "that made good on hippie peace, love and freedom".[2] In 2017, Chic was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the eleventh time.[3] As of 2025, Rodgers and Chic continue to perform as Nile Rodgers & Chic.

Disco is a genre of dance music and a subculture that emerged in the late 1960s from the United States' urban nightlife scene. Its sound is typified by four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, string sections, brass and horns, electric pianos, synthesizers, and electric rhythm guitars.

Discothèques as a venue were mostly a French invention, imported to the United States with the opening of Le Club, a members-only restaurant and nightclub located at 416 East 55th Street in Manhattan, by French expatriate Olivier Coquelin, on New Year's Eve 1960.[5]

Art Ensemble of Chicago - People In Sorrow

I haven't played this much. However it was just what I fancied this morning and I really enjoyed it.

A Japanese pressing with a proper Tesco Value sleeve.

Bowie and Adler squeak and squawk over a very low-key background. However, out of that emerges some beautiful melody. Makes me promise myself to sit down and properly listen to this album and reveal its hidden depths. One day.

This album was recorded in Boulogne. This was where British schools used to go to for our French day trip. I remember discussing Holiday In Cambodia with my mate on the coach because John Peel had played it the night before. This means it was 1980 when I went. Like some Willie Russell play, we'd be let loose in the town to buy flick knives and bangers, fill up on Orangina (Mmmmm) and get in fights (boys) or cop off with (girls) the local youth whilst the teachers got half-cut. Happy days.

Their name is SUEDE, & it always fucking will be.
I don’t give a shit what that shitty jazz vocalist thinks.
She is not Suede, & she can go to hell.

This was about as #glam as the #90s got.
I fell in love with this album intensely for about 2-3 years, & then, I just kind of outgrew it.
I had discovered a bevy of weirder, fringier music & stuff like Suede just kind of fell by the wayside.

I’ve been rediscovering this great album over the past few days.
I wish the name on the cover looked more like the CD version I had as a kid (the ‘93 U.S. issue on Nude/Columbia).

I forgot how awesome both “Metal Mickey” & “Animal Nitrate” are. 😂
This didnt quite break through in my country like it did in the UK, though, but a really great record.

I noticed today in Tidal that all AI music is tagged in bold letters, and there's a toggle to turn it all off. What a glorious day.

I went through my playlists to see if I'd been bamboozled by any AI music, and I had four tracks I was on the fence about (now I know why). Otherwise I was able to self filter over 90% of slop tracks before this feature came around. There's hope yet for music. Now if only Tidal can fix the rest of their tagging. 🙃

Been a super busy last few weeks, and I haven’t gotten to listen to as much music as I like, but today marks Day 1 of ten days of relaxation.

Starting with the last of the three Screaming Trees reissues I bought a few weeks ago, and I saved my favorite of the SST albums for last.

After this, the band was off to Epic, and the wondrous land of major label alternative stardom.

As I mentioned on the other posts, the band kept honing their sound with each record. They got better and better, and I think after hearing Buzz Factory, the powers that be were fully convinced.

The run of three albums that followed this were absolutely stellar on every level, but as we also talked about, a very different band than the SST Trees.

It was a long weekend here (fuck the King). We’d been to a family wedding the day prior so there was no time for spins and I was itching to play this after I’d watched the Luther Vandross documentary on Saturday night. An incredible talent that I don’t remember from my younger years and seemed to have missed the fact he featured on so many albums I own including this. I discovered my favourite track from this album, Fascination, was by Vandross and from his act Luther, track Funky Music (Is a Part of Me). To a more seasoned enthusiast this is probably not new info. But that’s the thing about music, it never ceases to amaze me that there is always something to learn and fill a new knowledge gap.
