Something stupid this way comes.

I’m usually not up this early in the morning on a Sunday, and I’m absolutely dragging.
Did I blind pull from the library to help me get going as I get ready, and THIS won out.

This was a favorite movie of mine when I was ten years old. I rented it from VideoMania probably about 50 times over a three year period.

Because I’ve seen it so many times, I have a great sentimental attachment to the soundtrack as well, despite it having some awful shit on it.

But it also has Bananarama & The Art Of Noise on it as well, which are the best songs on this thing.

I often wonder how much money they must have offered Ralph Bellamy to be in this movie. Guy had an unparalleled 65 year acting career.

Cocert went well, though I had to really concentrate not to miss any entrances because the solo ensemble that we alternated with sounded so good.

Funny thing at the beginning of the concert: Our choir director always gives a little speech about the program and how it ties into the chuch year. He asked the audience if anyone was planning to celebrate Halloween. Not one hand went up, in a pretty much full church!

We're singing a requiem by Fransesco Cavalli, and Ecce beatam Lucem by Allessadro Striggio (which originally has 40 voices, but since our choir isn't that big, we're doing an arrangement for 11). My husband is playing organ in the Cavalli, and I stand almost straight behind him, which is nice. :)

A mobile palliative care team visited me this Thursday and concluded that I would need assistance with certain daily tasks. The progression of lesions on my lumbar vertebrae has cost me mobility.. and, consequently, my independence. I now live almost entirely in a single room, alone, face-to-face with myself. :0)

I haven’t played a single note of music since I returned home about two weeks ago.

Oh man, it’s been a while for this one.

A killer, on-point incorporation of distorted #americana and #folk noisy #punk, and #psychedelic #garagerock .

This is The Men continuing to stretch out their musical palette. You hear a lot in here; from Neil Young and Crazy Horse to The Replacements and Husker Du.
But for those who prefer the abrasive and hardcore early punk days of The Men, that’s here too.

The two gems here for me are “Half Angel Half Light” (incredible tune), and the album closer, “Supermoon”.

Great songs here from front to back, though.

SPIRITUALIZED
Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space

I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan of Spiritualized, but THIS record got me through some very down and difficult times back in 1997.

It’s really the only Spiritualized album I’ve ever cared for, despite my best efforts to find ANYTHING else from their catalog that hits me in even remotely the same way.
To no avail.

Whenever I hear “Broken Heart”, I instantly transport back to walking up Lincoln St in Franklin, Ma, in the middle of a fucking blizzard, drunk, high, and indeed heartbroken.

It was about a 60 min walk back from my newly EX girlfriend’s house to my place, & I listened to that song about 10 times, while the falling 2am snow got illuminated in the streetlights.

At that moment, I couldnt have identified with a song more.
That album stayed in my headphones for the next 4 months.
