The project threw "Chicago Transit Authority" (1969) at me today.

I'm flabbergasted!
Why did I think is a "AOR soft rock" band, I'm seriously asking how and why was I making this assumption?
This album "grooves like a horny moose" (which is my take on a finnish saying). I'm thinking I have to go thought their latter albums, I hear they kinda changed in to 80's, so maybe stop there.

Hello, I'm Holland. New to Mastodon.

I'm a composer/pianist who writes fantasy-inspired orchestral and piano music. I share my songs on YouTube and release albums every now and then on streaming platforms.

Sometimes, I share scores in the form of videos on my YouTube channel so you can follow along with the music if you enjoy that sort of thing.

I'm currently writing the soundtrack for a video game and would like to eventually move into the world of animated film scoring (I love animation!).

I'll keep this post short and share one of my songs below.

I hope that you enjoy listening to my music, and that it carries you away to far-off worlds.

    Thank you :)

I really wish I could find some deeply sampled string machines in SFZ, SF2, EXS24 or WAV format.

Loomer went out of business. They had a Solina clone plugin for Linux. It was always on my purchase list, and now I can't buy it.

Has anyone captured multisamples of every key of a Solina, Logan, Elka, Eminent, ARP or Opus3, VP-330 --or anything similar?

Some of the best conversations at happen when you're not looking for them. I noticed a shirt that said "I Support " and couldn't help but start talking to Michelle Wolff from the Guitar Center Music Foundation.

What followed was a conversation about programs being the first to get cut from school budgets. About 150 grant requests every quarter and only 30 getting fulfilled. About kids who might never discover they were meant to play an instrument. About veterans who could find healing through sound but won't get the chance. And about Michelle's own journey—an major whose voice was taken from her by vocal nodules, who had to rebuild her identity, and who never stopped being a musician.

              Give it a listen.

P.S. Sean Martin, CISSP and I recently met with Myka Miller, MM, MBA, Executive Director of the Guitar Center Music Foundation. We have some exciting plans to support their work. More soon.

                O Superman
                1981 U.S. 7” single @ 33rpm

One of the most inventive, unlikely, baffling, and MOVING “hit” singles of all time.

Just two alternating chords using an Eventide Harmonizer and a Roland VP-330 vocoder, the song was broken and championed by the great John Peel on BBC RADIO 1.

Lyrically, it’s mind bending, and many people, including Anderson herself, has said it’s about many things.

I’m not particularly interested in any of that. Just that when I hear it (still to this day), it strikes such an inexplicable emotional nerve in me that I can’t explain.
It’s a remarkable piece of art.

Perhaps Anderson summed it up best.

Rick James is a hell of a drug.

Simultaneously the height of absurdity and excess AND the greatest artistic statement of the decade.

I don’t understand how ANYBODY could hear “Party All The Time” and still think that cocaine is BAD for you. Like… what are you even talking about?

I guess if one has to have a sore throat and temperature, right after the first rehearsal of a new concert project is pretty good timing. :P Glad I didn't miss the rehearsal because this is a pretty difficult program.
Works by Caroline Shaw, Roxanna Panufnik, Lili Boulanger and Chiara Margarita Cozzolani. I get to sing in the solo ensemble in the last one, just a few short bits but exiting even so!
Had to cancel all my students today and spend the day on the sofa, but at least I can listen to the new pieces and get a start on learning them.

                                                          Yellow vinyl

I saw this in the record store today; a plain white 45 sleeve with JAWBREAKER written on it in blue marker, and a yellow colored record inside.

Turns out, this was a bonus 7” single that was included in a R.E.M. tribute record called Surprise Your Pig.

I had never heard of that record. It had Gumball, Vic Chesnutt, Jawbox, King Missile, and a bevy of other cool bands who love R.E.M..

Seeing JAWBREAKER on the sleeve was really all I needed to buy this (one of my favorite bands ever), and their version is a totally rad “Jawbreakered” version of “Pretty Persuasion”.

Also on the single are takes by Steel Pole Bath Tub (“We Walk)” and The Punchline (“Bandwagon”).

Pretty cool versions by all three, but the Jawbreaker track made me very happy.

“Fearless” is my favorite Pink Floyd song. Ever.

So clearly, I was siked to grab this promotional MONO single.

                                                              Here’s the problem:

BOTH of these songs are edited versions of their original Meddle versions. But it’s the WAY “Fearless” is edited that is bothersome.

The whole second verse (“Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd…) is MISSING. Completely taken out.
Baffling enough. But what’s MORE confusing is that they left the chant IN at the end.
                                                              WTF?!?!
Why not cut THAT out and leave the song alone how it is?!?! I don’t get it.

                                                              Like I said… a bit odd.
Curious enough to hold onto for now, I guess, but I won’t be listening to this much.

This album was one of a handful that was a great source of comfort to my wife and I in 2007. We had moved into our very first apartment together in Woonsocket, R.I., and toiled in that joint for a year before hitting the road and moving to Van Isle.

Over that year, we listened to Illinois, Boxer by The National, Pete Yorn’s Nightcrawler, and a few other things on a loop.
We made that place our own, and we still remember that time (and the music we listened to) fondly.

We were so young, and had no idea what was in store for us down the road.

Sufjan will always remind us of that time. We love this album dearly.

Blow was the FIRST rapper to sign with a major label, and the first COMMERCIALLY viable hip-hop figure.
THAT song was also the FIRST gold record for the genre.
A HALF A MILLION COPIES is insane for a rap single in 1980.
The industry was still afraid of that shit, and Blow blew the doors down for a lot of rappers, and had a lot to do with legitimizing rap and hip-hop as a viable industry and business model.

                                                                                          Kurtis Blow.

I was able to see them play live TWICE back in the day, and they were incredible. There wasn’t a single album of theirs that I didn’t love.

This was their third album, and their second for Touch And Go, a label I absolutely consumed and lived on back then. This has the magnificent “Kill The Sex Player” on it, a song that also appeared on the soundtrack to Kevin Smith’s CLERKS.

For me, this band’s secret weapon was always their awesome rhythm section.

Working on a new jam kinda retro rock thing. Two chords, 4 bass notes. Very simple repetitive structure. Got the single rhythm guitar and bass tracks finished. Probably vocals next. Nice to do a basic improvisational on the fly jam thing. Unpredictable outcome, but it feels good.

Despite the absolutely terrible choir score we had for one piece, that didn't mark the time signatures of measures in the places where the choir has a rest, so we had no idea how long those rests were! I suppose the publisher thought choir singers can't count anyway and rely on the conductor for any entrance. Boo. Plus: odd choices of cue notes, and unreadably small time signatures, just to make everything more fun to read.

The video is mostly a Blues Brothers-era cop car being chased by what I'm guessing (I've never watched Dr. Who but other photos of them look less rudimentary) is a homemade Tardis, and involves lots of rural English scenery, "you wot"s, and doing donuts on a disused industrial estate.
